ABC just shared its fall TV schedule for the 2025-2026 season. There are a lot of fan-favorites returning this fall, but there are a few shows that fans were probably expecting to be a part of that schedule.
We shared four ABC shows that will be returning for new seasons this fall, along with three ABC shows that we'll definitely be missing later this year. The good news is none of these shows have been officially canceled yet, and only one of these seven shows is still on the bubble.
Let's get the list started with one of ABC's most popular dramas coming back for a new season in the fall!
911 season 9

Status: Returning fall 2025
Don't worry, fans! 911 is returning this fall on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Not only that, but it's going to be followed by a new 911 spinoff, 911: Nashville, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. We know this block is going to be must-see TV for 911 fans all year long on ABC.
With that said, 911 season 9 is probably going to feel a little bit different than previous seasons after the finale events of season 8. I don't want to get into too many spoilers, so I'm not going to reveal who died in the last few episodes of season 8. That death will loom large in season 9. It's so big that it's unavoidable, and the story will change because of that death moving forward. I know some fans aren't happy, and it sucks when our favorite characters are killed off. I always urge fans to just chill, let it simmer, and then see if you can continue watching the show even if it doesn't feel the same when it returns. That's all we can do!
Don't forget to watch 911 season 8 finale on Thursday, May 15, on ABC!
The Rookie season 8

Status: Returning in 2026
The Rookie is not getting canceled or anything like that! The series was already renewed for season 8 ahead of the season 7 finale. So, fans don't need to worry about that. Unfortunately, The Rookie season 8 will not premiere on ABC in fall 2025. Instead, ABC is holding The Rookie season 8 for a midseason premiere, just like season 7.
So after the season 7 finale aired on ABC on Tuesday, May 13, we're in for a long wait for The Rookie season 8. Right now, it looks like the new season should premiere in early 2026, but ABC did confirm that we'll see the full season air during spring 2026, just like season 7 did this spring. Ultimately, it's probably a much better viewing experience for fans to tune in every week.
New episodes of The Rookie season 8 will air on Tuesday nights with Will Trent season 4 and High Potential season 2. And, it looks like The Rookie spinoff is still possible, too!
High Potential season 2

Status: Returning fall 2025
Speaking of High Potential, we have some good news to share with fans! After an incredible and successful first season, High Potential starring Kaitlin Olson returns for season 2 on Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT this fall!
The first season came to an end back in February, so fans have been waiting patiently for updates regarding the second season for a while. Well, we have more good news to share on that front! In addition to the fall premiere announcement, ABC confirmed High Potential season 2 will have more episodes than season 1. We still don't know just how many episodes, but it's going to be more than 13 episodes!
Will Trent season 4

Status: Returning in 2026
Like The Rookie season 8, Will Trent season 4 is happening at ABC, but it's just not happening for ABC's fall lineup. Just like with season 3, Will Trent season 3 is being stashed for a midseason premiere in early 2026. So, fans will be waiting until at least January 2026 after the epic season 3 finale aired on Tuesday, May 13.
When Will Trent returns, it will join new episodes of The Rookie and High Potential on Tuesday nights. It's unclear what the order of those shows will be. High Potential season 2 is following Dancing With The Stars to start the season, so it's possible that Will Trent and The Rookie will slot in before High Potential in that Tuesday block. We'll just have to wait and see!
Abbott Elementary season 5

Status: Returning fall 2025
It's already been a month since Abbott Elementary season 4 came to an end on ABC, but I think we all knew when this show would be coming back. The series is such a big part of ABC's comedy slate, so we basically knew, heading into ABC's Upfronts presentation, that Abbott Elementary season 5 would premiere this fall. And, that's exactly what ABC confirmed.
Abbott Elementary season 5 is on ABC's schedule on Wednesday nights. New episodes will air at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT right after Shifting Gears. I'm sure fans of the series have some big thoughts about where the story is headed, but Tyler James Williams just dropped a huge hint from the Upfronts red carpet about Greg and Janine's (Quinta Brunson) relationship.
Doctor Odyssey season 2

Status: Not renewed or canceled yet
Doctor Odyssey is the one show on this list with an uncertain future. We were hoping Doctor Odyssey would be renewed for season 2 during ABC's Upfronts presentation, but that didn't happen. The show is not part of ABC's fall schedule, and it might not even be part of ABC's midseason schedule, either, which seems like it would be a huge surprise.
While this is a disappointing update to be certain, it doesn't necessarily mean that Doctor Odyssey season 2 isn't happening. It's just a little too early for ABC to confirm if it's coming back or not. According to a report from Deadline, Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich said the renewal decision will likely come down to series creator Ryan Murphy and his schedule.
Here's what Erwich said during the Upfronts week:
“Doctor Odyssey isn’t currently on our schedule. Ryan’s really busy. He’s doing a lot with us. 911, 911: Nashville, All’s Fair [for Hulu]. So we’re just continuing that creative conversations with him.”
So, that's where things stand right now. I have a feeling this will not be the end of Doctor Odyssey, but we'll just have to wait and see how it shakes out after the season finale airs on Thursday, May 15.
Grey's Anatomy season 22

Status: Returning fall 2025
Last but certainly not least, Grey's Anatomy season 22 premieres on ABC this fall! That's probably the least surprising news for fans of the series and ABC for the last two-plus decades. Grey's Anatomy continues to be one of ABC's most popular shows, so there was no doubt this one would be holding down its 10 p.m. ET/PT Thursday night timeslot again in the fall.
And, if you were wondering when ABC might be thinking about pulling the plug on Grey's Anatomy, you shouldn't be! In an interview with Deadline, Erwich basically confirmed that Grey's Anatomy isn't going anywhere anytime soon. So, it sounds like we'll see you this fall for the Grey's Anatomy season 22 premiere, and we'll probably see you the fall after that for the Grey's Anatomy season 23 premiere, too.
Don't forget to watch the Grey's Anatomy season 21 finale on Thursday, May 15!
