If there is one ABC show we're eagerly waiting for an answer about, it's Doctor Odyssey. This is the last remaining bubble scripted show on the network, and we thought for sure we'd get answers (good or bad) about its future.
Premiering in fall 2024, Doctor Odyssey quickly gained a following. However, that following didn't quite stick around, seeing the viewership drop to being one of the lowest-rated shows on the network in the linear ratings. As renewals came in for fellow Thursday dramas 911 and Grey's Anatomy but not for the cruise ship drama, many worried that it would be the end of the road.
ABC still hasn't made a decision about Doctor Odyssey
There is some disappointing news as ABC reveals its fall 2025 schedule. The alphabet network still hasn't made a decision about Doctor Odyssey. That's right! In an unusual turn of events for ABC, the series hasn't been canceled or renewed ahead of the release of the fall schedule.
In a way, that's a good thing. After all, those who love the show have hope that there is more to come. However, it turns out that the lack of renewal or cancellation decision comes from someone who is not an exec of ABC.
It's all about Ryan Murphy, according to Deadline.

This isn't all that surprising news when you consider Disney boss Eric Shrier had already mentioned that the decision for the future of Doctor Odyssey likely lies with Murphy. Despite the series not quite performing in the linear ratings, it continues to be something that ABC (and Disney) enjoys.
Murphy is a busy man, though. He has 911 and the new 911: Nashville coming in fall 2025, with Nashville taking over the Thursday night timeslot currently held by the Joshua Jackson medical drama. At the same time, he has American Horror Story, American Crime Story (which is sort of in limbo), and the new Hulu drama All's Fair.
If there is an idea to continue the story, it will be there. Of course, this could be problematic for the cast, as cast options can start to run out and the actors will want to go to other projects where they're guaranteed some work. It's something to keep an eye on, as it's unheard of in the world of broadcast TV for the most part.
Doctor Odyssey will air its season 1 finale on Thursday, May 15 at 9/8c on ABC.
