There's no doubt that High Potential was one of the biggest and best new broadcast shows of the past season, and everyone has been wanting more. Thankfully, ABC renewed the breakout hit for a second season, which will debut this fall once again in its Tuesday night timeslot. We also just learned some exciting news about season 2 that fans will definitely love.
After debuting ABC's fall 2025 schedule, Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich revealed to Deadline that High Potential season 2 would have a larger episode count than season 1. That's exactly what fans have been asking for after the 13-episode first season left us hungry for more. Rather than ordering 20 episodes, ABC ordered a slimmer season 1 due to Kaitlin Olson's commitments to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which returns this summer.
Erwich praised High Potential's positive "momentum," which has been greatly impacted by viewers watching the show on Disney+ and Hulu, and has high hopes that the show will continue to outpace itself with its second season this fall. Here's what he told Deadline:
"We have so much momentum going with that show, and I actually think it will perform even better next year."

High Potential season 2 episode count officially increased
While it's confirmed that High Potential season 2 will have more than 13 episodes, the exact number of episodes hasn't been shared just yet. Deadline only notes that season 2 episode count will be upped "by a couple of hours." Olson herself recently told Deadline in April 2025 that the upcoming new season would contain "a little bit" more episodes without revealing how many.
Considering the season 2 episode count has only been suggested as a minor increase instead of a full-season order of 20 episodes, we're likely looking at about 15 episodes for season 2. Sure, that's not a significant increase, but it's two more episodes with Morgan and Karadec! The highest episode count that seems possible for the series would be 18, which is the normal full-season order for 9-1-1.
Personally, I'm super excited about the news of High Potential's episode count increase. It's unabashedly my favorite new broadcast show of the past year, and probably my favorite new show of the past year period. It's just so good that it was hard to say "see you later" after only 13 episodes in February. More episodes allows us more time with the story and a bigger playing field for that story.
What concerns me as a fan of the series, though, is increasing the episode count too much and the show creatively suffering for needing to fill that space. I don't believe High Potential is at any risk of jumping the shark or losing what made the show so special last season, but sometimes more isn't always better. Keeping the show tight is to its advantage in the long run, so don't go too overboard.
High Potential returns with new episodes Tuesday nights at 10/9c this fall on ABC.
