Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 1 finale left us with so many cliffhangers, changes, and teased challenges to come for multiple characters in the second season. I can already tell that season 2 is going to be quite the eventful one. The titular characters and central couple have a lot to deal with and get through, though they're not the only ones.

Co-creator and showrunner Steve Holland recently revealed to TVLine that Mandy's father and fan-favorite character, Jim McAllister, is going to have a bit of a difficult time in Georgie and Mandy season 2, which premieres this fall on CBS. This definitely makes sense as he decided to sell the tire shop and retire early by the end of the first season.

Well, retirement for Jim may be easier said than done. Because now we're all wondering whether he's really going to be able to handle it. It sounds like the McAllister patriarch won't really be able to do so. Here's what Holland teased about the character in season 2:

"My dad is retiring now, and he’ll be 81 — he put it off for so long because he was afraid of that. And I think part of the fun with Jim in season 2 is that he’s not built for retirement. You have all these great plans of what retirement is going to look like, and all the freedom you’ll have, but when faced with the reality of it, it might be a little more boring and daunting than it seems [in the moment].”

Big Decisions
“Big Decisions” – Tensions rise when Georgie finds out the truth about Mandy’s boss, and Georgie does all he can to buy the tire store before Jim sells it, on part two of the first season finale of GEORGIE & MANDY’S FIRST MARRIAGE, Thursday, May 15 (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. I feel like many of us viewers were wondering what in the world Jim was going to do with his newfound free time. Just like Holland said, it can be a difficult transition. Especially after working for so long. Many people become a bit lost and don't know how to fill their days without a job. I wonder if Jim is going to keep stopping by the tire shop in an excuse to check in on Georgie and Ruben. But really, he's trying to find something to do.

With his choice to sell the shop and retire, this is what led Georgie to frantically figure out a way to buy the store from his father-in-law. Ultimately, his mother Mary puts up her house as collateral for the loan at the bank. Ruben helped put up the rest of the money, and now the two are business partners, which will lead to some fun conflict as Holland has previously teased.

The increased work load and responsibility is going to shift Georgie's focus and time on keeping the business afloat. This also comes during the time where Mandy has gotten a full-time position as the weather girl at the local news station, where her ex-boyfriend Scott is her boss.

As both of these young people are busier at work, and the fact that Mandy hid who Scott was for months from Georgie, there's going to be more tension for the two to work through. Or, it's possible they won't given the title of the series, and knowing from The Big Bang Theory that they do end up splitting up. We'll have to see what's in store. I can't wait!

Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 2 premieres in fall 2025 on CBS.
