I have been a fan of The Big Bang Theory and its universe since the start of the flagship series in 2007 on CBS. Then Young Sheldon came along with its lovable characters, the Cooper family. Including Meemaw as well of course! The ensemble worked and they were all well-liked from the start. Now, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage is continuing the story with the focus on the eldest Cooper. While I'm a fan of him, and even Mandy, season 1 overall didn't manage to impress me when it comes to the characters and series. Though after the finale, there's definitely potential for season 2 to be better.
I think the fact that Young Sheldon was a single-cam and it's sequel moved to multi-cam was a big mistake. While the predecessor was lighthearted overall, there was also a lot of drama and heart for the Coopers, and it worked for the story. The multi-cam worked for TBBT, but I don't really like it for Georgie and Mandy to be honest. The jokes are fine, but they're not really laugh out loud. There was something about TBBT cast and their delivery that was hilarious. In the latest installment in the franchise, I can't say the same.
Audrey just honestly got on my nerves overall this season. I understand that Georgie lied and she's protective of her daughter. But he stepped up, got married, and is working very hard to support his family. He's owning up to that mistake and trying to make up for it. It takes Audrey way too long to warm up to him a bit, just a smidge. It wasn't until the finale that we see this. And look, I'm an opinionated woman myself. But she does it in an overbearing way that makes it hard to like the character.

Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 2 needs to develop its characters more
Sheldon was definitely eccentric, but Conner is just plain, um, weird. I'm not a fan of his character and he's written in a cringey way. Then there's Ruben who was in the background the whole time and, no offense, didn't add anything to the show. Then out of nowhere, he's Georgie's partner at the tire shop now.
All of this is to say that I think the Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 1 finale proved that the formula of a mix of comedy and drama works better for these characters. Just like Young Sheldon morphed more into that as the seasons went on, I think the same needs to happen for Georgie and Mandy season 2. I was finally more invested in the story, and the characters, especially Audrey and Ruben, had more meat to them than we've seen all season. That's why I think there's a lot of potential for the next chapter in this story to be better than was was delivered in season 1.
The main couple's conflicts will continue, as teased by actress Emily Osment. And the finale definitely doesn't mean that they're all good. They're committed to figuring it out together. Then there's Jim and the fact that we don't know what he's going to be doing now that he's retired. Plus, there's potential to get into the origin story of Dr. Tire of sorts and see Georgie grow as an official business man. The second season has a lot of exciting and intriguing storylines coming up, so I hope that the writers learn from what they did right in the finale, and continue it going into season 2.
Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 2 will premiere Thursdays in fall 2025 on CBS.
