Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage is using Young Sheldon cast better than expected

Georgie has really come a long way since we first met him on Young Sheldon, and he became a more likable and important as a character as time went on. Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage honestly isn't a laugh out loud sort of comedy like The Big Bang Theory, but it is interesting to see how Georgie is juggling his wife, CeeCee, his in-laws, and his family. And speaking of the Coopers, we've actually been seeing more of them than I thought we would.

When news about the spin-off focusing on Georgie and Mandy first came, we were told that we would be seeing Young Sheldon characters. They are still in the same town of Medford, Texas after all. And it's not very big. Though, the creators warned not to expect too much of them as the creative team wants to allow Georgie and Mandy to stand on its own and not just be a continuation of Young Sheldon. Which I can respect.

So honestly other than a couple of episodes, I wasn't expecting to see Mary, Missy, Meemaw, or others pop up very often. Though we've been getting them quite a bit if you think about it! Mary and Connie appeared in the very first episode of the new sitcom, Missy in episode 2, the three plus Dale in episode 5 for Thanksgiving, Pastor Jeff made an appearance in episode 10 then later on again in episode 16, and even Coach Wayne as well.

They've come in and out, but all in all there's been at least one Young Sheldon character in a total of 10 episodes out of the 22-episode season of Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage. Of course we haven't gotten episodes 21 and 22, which will air back-to-back as the season 1 finale. Based on the promotional images for the episodes, at least Mary is seen to be back in episode 22, "Big Decisions." Here's all the episodes the characters show up in:

  • Episode 1, "The 6:10 to Lubbock"
  • Episode 2, "Some New York Nonsense"
  • Episode 5, "Thanksgiving"
  • Episode 10, "A House Divided"
  • Episode 14, "A Sportsbook and a Breakup"
  • Episode 16, "Baby Fight"
  • Episode 17, "Two Idiots on a Dirt Bike"
  • Episode 19, "Snitch v. Deadbeat"
  • Episode 20, "Ladies Love Brunch"
  • Episode 21 "Guilt Boots" (MAYBE)
  • Episode 22, "Big Decisions"

We love seeing Young Sheldon characters on Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage

Now as a fan of the franchise and the characters we spent seven seasons with, I'm not complaining! I like that Marry, Connie, and Missy are popping up every once in a while. Georgie is close to his family, especially now that his dad is gone. He's taking on the responsibility of being there for them, even if he's not living in the Cooper house anymore. He's a good son and is really stepping up.

It's also just always fun to see those familiar faces. Because I understand the writers not wanting this to feel like Young Sheldon. It doesn't though. There's a good balance. It did directly follow it though, and the predecessor is still fresh in our minds. So I think it's really smart that the characters are being incorporated often to keep that built-in audience.

I am curious about whether this will continue in the already confirmed Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 2 on CBS. As I mentioned, right now Young Sheldon is still fresh in our minds. So the first season, you kind of want to ease those viewers into the new show. Though perhaps season 2 will see less of them as the comedy finds it footing even more.

I don't know. I could be wrong. We'll have to wait and see. I do hope that there's some episode with Sheldon coming home to visit though, and we can see Iain Armitage reprise his role as the young genius for just one episode. Fingers crossed!

The Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 1 finale airs Thursday, May 15, 2025 on CBS. Stream the next day on Paramount+.
