If you haven't been feeling as particularly excited as usual for Chicago Fire season 14 to premiere this fall, don't worry. The unfortunate cast exits have many fans bummed, but there are still some good things on the docket for Firehouse 51 amid all of the bittersweetness.
Ahead of the new season's premiere, we have learned that in addition to a new character joining the firehouse, some familiar faces will be popping by for a visit. Chicago Fire's showrunner Andrea Newman teased there will be surprises in store for the firehouse to show support as the various changes stabilize. However, we do know where one of those surprises will come from.
Crossovers have been a major part of bringing the One Chicago shows together on NBC and creating an interconnected community and television universe. So far, there isn't an official crossover event planned between the shows (yet!) this season like last season's three-parter, but Chicago Fire's showrunner confirmed that Novak will be making multiple appearances on Med. What?!

Chicago Fire season 14 will have Novak crossing over with Chicago Med for 'intriguing reasons'
In TV Line's Fall TV preview, Chicago Fire's showrunner teased that there are a number of "mini-crossovers" planned between Fire and Med. While Newman didn't reveal exactly what fans should expect, she did share that Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) will be at the center of these crossovers between the two shows. Could Novak have a crossover romance with a Gaffney doctor this season?
Newman confirmed Novak's double duty on the show and hinted that she will be "crossing over a bunch with Med for intriguing reasons." What's more of an intriguing reason for these mini-crossovers than dating one of the characters from Chicago Med? It's not the first time the One Chicago shows would include a romantic crossover, but it would be the latest and, to borrow a phrase, the most intriguing.
The Chicago Med character who comes to mind as a potential love interest for Novak would be Dr. John Frost (Darren Barnet). He's the newest male character on the show who hasn't really had any romantic entanglements at all. Chicago Med season 10 found Frost confronting a toxic relationship from his past that caused him great trauma. Beyond that, Frost hasn't had a love interest.
We've taken a season to get to know Frost and his backstory, but it's time for his story to move forward in the present tense, and that includes a romantic relationship. Since the toxic experience he untangled in season 10 had to do with something happening at his workplace, it's probably better for him to date outside Gaffney. Who's outside his workplace (technically)? Novak! And don't forget, the pair have already met and flirted. It's canon, and Hudon also teased their connection.
If not Frost for some weird reason, Novak could potentially even find a spark with Ripley, but he appears to be a little busy with his reunion with Sadie and the impending fallout from Asher's pregnancy reveal. Novak probably wouldn't want to get involved in the baby daddy drama. The "intriguing reasons" behind Novak's Med crossovers could be something not romance-related, but what fun would that be?
Chicago Fire season 14 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 9/8c on NBC. Chicago Med season 11 premieres the same night at 8/7c on NBC.
