Ripley went through a lot during Chicago Med season 10. He almost completely lost his job, and his whole world hit rock bottom. Yet, at the end of the season, there was a glimmer of hope.

For the longest time, it looked like we would see Ripley and Asher attempt their relationship again. It even looked like Asher was going to be the one at Ripley’s door in the closing moments of the Chicago Med season 10 finale.

Then things took a turn. Asher was actually at Archer’s door, reigniting the shippers of those two. Who was at Ripley’s? That would be Sadie, the woman he saved earlier in the season.

Sadie is coming back in Chicago Med season 11

It can sometimes feel like things happen in finales just to leave a cliffhanger. Then the actors can’t come back the following season due to clashing schedules, and planned storylines have to take a different turn.

That’s not going to be the case here. According to TV Insider, Sadie is going to come back in the new season. Things are sure to get complicated, but at least we get to see that complicated storyline play out on our screens.

Showrunner Allen MacDonald has made it clear that things are going to be complicated for Asher and Archer, but what about Asher and Ripley? What about Ripley and Sadie? Well, depending on who the father of Asher’s baby is, it could end up being an extremely complicated and awkward love square.

Sadie and Ripley want to give things a chance

Reading between the lines, it looks like both Sadie and Ripley want to give things a chance. After Ripley saved her, the two went their separate ways. After all, we’ve heard time and time again throughout the One Chicago series that an intense and traumatic experience can create a bond and a feeling of romantic interest.

This happens a lot more in Chicago Fire than in other shows in the franchise, but it is a real issue. Ripley will understand this, so it made sense that he pulled away.

"I think after meeting in the well episode, Ripley and Sadie did a lot of thinking about reaching out to each other. I think Ripley avoided it because you can’t assume a bond forged in a heightened traumatic situation will make a great relationship — please see the 1994 movie Speed as an example."

However, Sadie is at his door. She has decided that she feels something, and she wants the chance to explore that. Whether the two will be able to work or not is another thing, but there does seem to be some hope based on MacDonald’s words. Sometimes, you really do just have to take a chance on love.

“I think Sadie worried about the same thing but finally said to herself, ‘I felt something real and I can’t just leave that on the table.’ So she showed up at Ripley’s door… and I think going into Season 11, Ripley’s really glad she did.”

Chicago Med season 11 premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 8/7c on NBC.
