It's time to learn a little more about a non-Main 8 ghost.

The longer a series goes on, the more chance there is to develop characters. Even the supporting characters, and that’s exactly what Ghosts season 5 promises to do.

The new season certainly has a lot of things to cover. There’s the fact that Jay has signed a deal with the devil, and the issues between Pete and Alberta after that kiss. There is hope that Joan will get more of a story, and that we’ll see more of her and Sas together.

What we didn’t expect to hear is that we’d get some more details about a particular supporting character who has constantly popped up—and often caused trouble—since the beginning of the series. Yes, it’s all about Nancy.

Flashbacks of Nancy are coming in Ghosts season 5

According to TV Insider, Joe Port shared that there would be more flashbacks into the pasts of the ghosts. This has been a great way to expand storylines, with one of the most haunting moments being the reveal of how Hetty died.

Now we’re going to get flashbacks of the non-Main 8 ghosts, which means the Basement Ghosts. Nancy is the one who has constantly shown up, sometimes with good ideas and sometimes just to cause trouble. To be honest, as a Basement Ghost, she just wants in on the drama and the gossip, but she’s happy being in the basement for longer periods of time.

One thing we know about her (and the other ghosts there) is that she died of cholera. It’s time to find out how that happened and why.

Who Do You Think You Are?
“Who Do You Think You Are?” – After young couple Alison and Mike Cooper inherit an estate, the resident ghosts from across the ages attempt to haunt them into leaving the property. Following an accident caused by one of the ghosts’ antics, Alison finds that she can see and hear them, on the U.S. Network premiere of GHOSTS UK, Thursday, Nov. 16 (9:01-9:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on

The UK Ghosts already explained the Basement Ghosts

In the UK version of the series, the spirits that reside in the basement all caught the plague and died. We got a quick flashback to see how the plague reached their area and quickly spread, and we learned how they ended up in the basement. After all, the basement wouldn’t have been used to house the sick!

Well, it turns out that the land Button Manor was built on in the UK version was once a plague pit. That’s why the ghosts show up.

The plague had to be switched to cholera to make sense for the change to U.S. history, although we know that they weren’t taken to the basement to die together. Instead, there is a bigger storyline, as they have been around since before Woodstone Manor was built. Maybe with a bit of Nancy’s background, we’ll get to learn more about the situation of the Basement Ghosts as a whole in Ghosts season 5.

Ghosts season 5 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.
