We're closer than ever to finding out the answer to the big mystery in Ghosts season 5.

Nearly every ghost on the CBS hit Ghosts has had their death mystery revealed. Their pasts are crucial, as they're a piece of history, figures who existed during America's most pronounced eras. Due to the spirits being in constant limbo, they can share what it was really like living during those times rather than trying to form an idea through textbooks or online videos.

All except one ghost hasn't had the privilege of sharing their death mystery, and it's high time they did. In fact, they were from a period when America wasn't the United States yet and before the major "binge" of European settlers explored the lands.

We're talking about Sasappis, the sardonic and serious ghost from the Lenape tribe from the 1500s. He's one of the first apparitions to haunt Woodstone Manor and witnessed the historic events that followed his death. Sas likely observed more than the average living (or dead) individual should have, but his analytical and honest lens of what transpired in history plays a remarkable role in Ghosts.

After four seasons and plenty of development with Sasappis, we might get his intriguing but sad death circumstances in the upcoming fifth season. It'd bring a near-closure to the fanon theories, as the heroic man's fate will be officially confirmed.

But it's not just us fans at GeekSided who are curious about the life of Sasappis. A fan over at TVLine wondered the same thing, asking the question to editor Matt Webb Mitovich about young Sass.

One of the showrunners, Joe Wiseman, provided som clarity on whether the death mystery surrounding Sasappis will be solved.

"We’re not promising [anything], but [Sasappis's death] is something we’ve talked about a lot. It does seem like every season, we reveal some of the big mysteries — what their powers are, and how they died — and as you mentioned, I think the last one is Sas’ death, so… probably.”

Sas's ability to enter people's dreams when they're in a stone-like slumber could be a vital clue to his death, as the powers of the ghosts reflect their own demises, or were a significant attribute in their living days. In his youth, Sasappis was a masterful storyteller and visionary. His gifts followed him through his days beyond and crafted his dream sequencing powers, as he can now 'write' his own stories, which he lost the chance to do when he was alive.

As it was the 1500s, diseases, infections, and injuries were the dominant causes of death; Sasappis might have passed on from one of these tragedies. Given that his power is entering one's deepest dreams, I'm theorizing that Sas died from a delirious fever or infection, and sometimes when we're feverish, we encounter either very lucid or nonsensical dreams.

Either way, it's exciting to unveil another piece of the death mystery surrounding Sasappis. In season 4, he was given so much, with a girlfriend and ample use of his power. It'll be even better if we learn about his death.

Ghosts will return to CBS in Fall 2025.
