At long last, we’re getting close to Ghosts season 5. That’s right; your favorite resident spirits are returning, and just in time for Halloween.
Ghosts season 4 certainly ended with a major cliffhanger for the entire family. Jay had literally signed a deal with the devil, who happens to be Elias Woodstone, Hetty’s deceased husband. He hadn’t read all the fine print, and now Elias was back to collect his soul.
Meanwhile, the fourth season saw a new ghost join the Woodstone group, and a traveler ghost made her way into the heart of one of our favorites. Sam even found someone like her, and we hope to see that to come up again in Ghosts season 5.

When does Ghosts return?
We will have to wait until October, but we know that this show is worth the wait. Ghosts season 5 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 8:30/7:30c on CBS. The entire Thursday night lineup is staying as it was last season, because, well, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
That means the episode will air straight after the season 2 premiere of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Afterward, Matlock and Elsbeth take the stage, and we couldn’t be more excited about both of them coming back.
Need to watch the episode after it airs live? We’ve got your back! All episodes air on Paramount+ the day after.

When is Ghosts on?
After the Ghosts season 5 premiere, you’ll want to tune in every Thursday at 8:30/7:30c. That’s when the new episodes will air on CBS.
And yes, each episode will be on Paramount+ on Friday mornings, around 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT. This is where the entire series is available to stream.

Yes, you can buy episodes of Ghosts
You don’t need to get a streaming subscription, though! You can also buy the episodes on Digital, and they drop the day after they air live on CBS. You can buy via Apple TV, Amazon, YouTube, and much more.
If you get the entire season at once, the episodes will be automatically added to your account as they’re made available. This is usually within 24 hours of the episode airing live on CBS.
Of course, you're able to stream all episodes of Ghosts as part of your Paramount+ plan as well.

Who is in Ghosts season 5?
Of course, we’ll see Rose McIver return as Sam. There is no show without her! We’re also expecting to see Utkarsh Ambudkar return as Jay. While he may have sold his soul, everyone is going to work to find a way to get it back and save him from hell.
The Main 8 ghosts are sure to return. They are:
- Rebecca Wisocky as Hetty Woodstone
- Brandon Scott Jones as Captain Isaac Higgintoot
- Sheila Carrasco as Flower
- Román Zaragoza as Sasappis
- Danielle Pinnock as Alberta Haynes
- Devan Chandler Long as Thorfinn
- Richie Moriarty as Pete
- Asher Grodman as Trevor Lefkowitz
We know that Matt Walsh and Mary Holland are set to reprise their roles as Elias and Patience to kickstart the season, and we’re looking forward to seeing Taylor Ortega return as Joan to continue her relationship with Sass. We’re also sure to see Odessa A’zion back as Stephanie at some point, and there is a chance of Caroline Aaron returning as Carol.
On top of that, we hope to see:
- Punam Patel as Bela
- Tristan D. Lalla as Mark
- Alex Boniello as Crash
- Christian Jadah as Bjorn
- Deniz Akdeniz as Chris
- John Hartman as Nigel
The closer we get to the Ghosts season 5 premiere, the more we’ll know about it. So keep your eyes peeled! We’ll bring the updates as they happen.

What to expect in Ghosts season 5
Of course, the biggest element of Ghosts season 5 is saving Jay. We've covered that as we looked at the way season 4 ended.
There are lots of other storylines to focus on, though. One of those is Pete and Alberta, who kissed at the end of season 4. Alberta liked the bad boy side of Pete, but that's not who he is deep down. This could help Alberta step away from the toxic men in her life with a man who has pined for her for some time.
However, with Pete's wife now a ghost in the manor, it makes for an intriguing love triangle. It's not like Carol wants to be with Pete, but she probably wants someone she can't have.
Then there's Sass, who finally lost his virginity to Joan. The two have started a relationship, but it's going to be hard on Sass when Joan is able to travel a lot. Can he deal with a long-distance relationship?
There's also going to be the return of Chris, as some point. That's sure to create drama for Isaac and Nigel, considering Isaac told Nigel that Chris had been sucked off. Will Nigel understand, or will it be another nail in the coffin of the end of their relationship?
Ghosts season 5 will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.
