ABC comedy series Abbott Elementary might be on a break right now as we wait for the fall television season, and season 5, to arrive, though we do have a treat to give us our Abbott fix this summer. The first part of the show's crossover episode with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia aired with season 4 episode 9, "Volunteers." And it was a comedic gem! Though there's more coming when Sunny season 17 premieres very soon.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 17 premieres Wednesday, July 9, 2025 on FX. Though if you don't have access to the network, no worries. Episodes of the long-running sitcom stream on Hulu the next day. Just like Abbott! While on ABC there's a limit to how mature things can get, the show about the dysfunctional Philly friends has the freedom to do and say what they want. And that's what we're going to get with the second part of the Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny crossover episode.
Per Screen Rant, Abbott star Chris Perfetti, who plays Jacob Hill, teased that the upcoming crossover will be the "R-rated version of that day." If you remember, Charlie, Mac, Dee, Frank, and Dennis came to Abbott as volunteers to get hours for their community service. Though they tried to be on their best behavior, especially since there were the documentary cameras around, they still managed to cause some havoc as they usually do wherever they go.
Though Charlie had a heartwarming story with Barbara, Jacob, and Melissa in that they helped him learn how to read. What about when the cameras weren't around them? And not just the Sunny gang, but the teachers as well. It's been previously teased that we're also going to see more mature sides to Janine, Gregory, Jacob, and the rest of the staff in this R-rated version of events as well.
This is definitely going to be so intriguing! We've seen some of the Abbott Elementary characters curse, though of course it's bleeped out. Though they do have it in them. And with how frustrating their school days are in general, and then add the Sunny characters to that, I think we're in for some hilarious moments all of us will be surprised by. I just hope us fans don't leave too scandalized by our favorite teachers by the end of this. Ha!
