Let the countdown begin! The next Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode is less than a month away, and we’re definitely finding it hard to contain our excitement. On Abbott season 4 episode 9, “Volunteers,” all the characters seemed to interacted hilariously.
For those who don’t know the gang, you were probably horrified by their antics. Well, I’m sure it’s going to get worse on the Sunny side when the second part of the crossover premieres on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 on FX for the season 17 premiere. You can also stream on Hulu the next day.
Many of the stars have already teased that the Abbott teachers will be way more mature than we’ve seen them, and I’ll be honest I’m kind of looking forward to that. I think it’s going to be so fun! What else do we hope to see? Check out our list below!
The Abbott staff getting a little more raunchy
Overall because our favorite school comedy is on ABC, there's a limit to what the characters can do or say when it comes to maturity. The show also has a younger audience, so the writers need to keep that in mind as well. In interviews, creator and star Quinta Brunson also explained that since the documentary crew follows the staff around, they've got to be on their best behavior. That also applied to the Sunny gang who were mindful of the cameras. But what happens when those cameras are off!?
What was Dennis doing at the school without the cameras around?
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Dennis was noticeably absent from the Abbott Elementary episode, and it was explained that Dennis did not consent to the cameras and didn't want to be filmed. The reason for that is because the actor's availability was limited at the time, but It's Always Sunny's creator Rob McElhenney promised we'd see more Dennis in the second crossover episode. And just because the character didn't have cameras recording him, that doesn't mean he wasn't also up to no good just like his friends. I'm interested, and hope, to learn what it is he was doing during their time at the school.
Abbott Elementary at It's Always Sunny's Paddy’s Pub
Charlie, Mac, Dennis, Dee, and Frank were all featured in the school of course because they had to do the volunteer work. And there's more story to tell, hopefully, there as they interacted with Janine, Gregory, Jacob, Barbara, Melissa, Ava, and Mr. Johnson. Though I truly, truly hope that for whatever reason it may be, even if it's just a few moments at the end of the episode, that the Abbott staff enter Paddy's Pub and we see them there too. The two shows and all the characters crossing over has been so epic, and that would make it even more so!
