Each season of Abbott Elementary is full of character development and laughs! Though I'd argue season 4 is one of the comedy's best seasons so far. That of course includes the awesome Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode. Thankfully the series has already been renewed for a season 5 at ABC. And so while we wait, here's 4 thing we want to see in Abbott Elementary season 5.
Janine and Gregory taking the next step
Gregory and Janine have already been through some major milestones together in season 4 from spending the holidays together, saying I love you, and even meeting the parents. Well, at least Gregory's dad. There's still more milestones for them to hit, though there's one in particular we'd love to see in season 5.
I think it would be an interesting dynamic to see Janine and Gregory living together! We actually haven't seen where Gregory lives yet. It was something that there wasn't time for in season 4, but creator and actress Quinta Brunson has promised we'll see next season. With Gregory's bland choices and Janine being the opposite of that, it would be funny to see their home life together.
An actual love interest for Jacob
Jacob and Zach seemed to be happy when we were first introduced to his boyfriend in season 1, though the couple didn't work out. It's taken Jacob a while to get over him and instead he's been having fun with casual hookups.
That works for a while, though we'd love to see a real love interest for him. Everyone else has gotten one in season 4, including Melissa and Ava. So why not Jacob? He deserves love too and it's something we really hope to see for his character going forward.
Ava and O'Shon's continued romance
Janine and Gregory are of course the no. 1 couple of the comedy series, though Ava and O'Shon are definitely a twosome we are shipping! He's so sweet and not afraid of Ava's big personality, even recognizing when she was deflecting and calling her out on it. As for Ava, she's showing an even more caring and softer side to her slowly with him.
It's still a new relationship, though there's a lot of room for it to grow. It's still in the beginning stages. And we hope to continue seeing that in Abbott Elementary season 5. I certainly hope these two are end game.
Gregory becoming principal for real this time
From the very first episode of the show, we learned that Gregory had applied for the principal job at Abbott. Despite a great interview, the job was given to Ava after she blackmailed the superintendent when she caught him cheating on his wife. Oh, Ava.
It's what Gregory has always wanted to be. Though when he starts teaching, he enjoys it and sticks to. Though in season 4 when Ava gets fired, he has a chance to see what it feels like to have the job. And he certainly enjoys it. Not only that, he was good at it! I'm glad Ava is back, though perhaps it's time for Gregory to venture outside of Abbott and see if he can find a principal job elsewhere. He deserves it.
Abbott Elementary season 5 will most likely air in fall 2025 on ABC.
