Summer is drawing to a close and with the arrival of fall comes new seasons of our favorite shows, including 911

After taking the summer off, 911 will soon be returning to ABC’s lineup for a season that is sure to be unlike anything we’ve seen before. It’s going to be a season of change for the long-running first responder drama, one that will begin a new chapter after a season that left fans feeling emotionally wrecked and unsure of where to go next following the show’s most unexpected and heartbreaking death yet.

Just what can we expect from the new season? Read on for everything we know so far about the new season of 911

When does 911 return?

The new season of 911 will premiere at 8/7c on Thursday, October 9 on ABC! This is a week earlier than originally planned, as ABC updated the premiere date, which was originally scheduled for October 16. The ninth season of ABC’s hit first responder drama will lead into its new spinoff, 911: Nashville, with Grey’s Anatomy again closing the night for ABC.

When is 911 on?

Fans will get to enjoy episodes of 911 every Thursday night on ABC beginning on October 9. The new episodes will release at 8/7c on ABC throughout the fall before the show takes a break, which will likely keep season 9 off the air until March. There may be the odd week when ABC shakes up its schedule for special programming, but for the most part fans should expect new episodes to release at 8/7c on Thursdays.

You will then be able to watch the episodes the following day on both Disney+ and Hulu.

Where can you catch up on 911?

If you’re looking to catch up on the latest season of 911 before season 9 premieres, or are hoping to do a rewatch of the series before the new season arrives, there are two great options for where to catch up on 911. All eight seasons of the show are streaming on both Hulu and Disney+, giving fans two platforms to choose from.

Is anyone leaving 911 after season 8?

While 911 will not undergo a major cast turnover between seasons, season 8 was indeed Peter Krause’s final season on the show. As much as we wish Bobby’s death was just a nightmare we could wake up from, the show has confirmed that Bobby's death will not be undone, and Krause will not return as part of the season 9 cast.

There is always a chance we could see Bobby appear via flashbacks or a dream sequence down the line, but season 9 will be the show’s first season without Krause. It’s a change that is going to shake things up in the firehouse this season, with a new captain set to be appointed to the 118 and Bobby’s loved ones continuing to work through their grief in the season ahead.

Although Bobby will not be back, his spirit lives on in the upcoming season. It’s been teased that Bobby’s death will remain a point of discussion as the characters work to adjust to a world without their friend and loved one. His sacrifice will not only influence the journeys of several characters in the new season, but his legacy will also be honored with the 118 being renamed in Bobby’s memory.

Who will be in the 911 season 9 cast?

While Peter Krause will not be returning as part of the 911 season 9 cast, fans can look forward to the returns of every other season 8 series regular in the new season. The following stars are all confirmed to be returning as a series regular in season 9 with Angela Bassett (Athena Grant), Oliver Stark (Evan Buckley), Jennifer Love Hewitt (Maddie Han), Kenneth Choi (Howie “Chimney” Han), Aisha Hinds (Hen Wilson), Ryan Guzman (Eddie Diaz), and Gavin McHugh (Christopher Diaz).

Season 9 will also see the returns of Corinne Massiah (aka May Grant) and Elijah M. Cooper (Harry Grant), with both stars being promoted to series regular status for season 9. The move indicates that May and Harry will have a bigger presence in the season, which makes sense as the show explores Athena’s journey after losing Bobby.

It’s also expected that we’ll see many of the show’s recurring actors back in action for season 9, including Bryan Safi (Josh Russo), Traci Thoms (Karen Wilson), Debra Christofferson (Sue Blevins), and Anirudh Pisharody (Ravi Panikkar). Finally, we know that Mark Consuelos has joined the show in a guest-starring role playing a billionaire who gets swallowed by a whale.

How did 911 season 8 end?

Following Bobby’s death, the 911 season 8 finale brought about a lot of change for the members of the 118 and ended on a more optimistic note rather than leaning into any sort of shocking cliffhangers.

In the wake of Bobby’s death, Chimney seemed to come to terms with being ready to step up at the 118 and take on the position of Captain at the firehouse. We also saw Chimney and Maddie welcome the birth of their second child, a son they named after Bobby.

After taking a detour to Texas for part of the season, Eddie ended the season by finally moving back home in LA with Christopher. Eddie’s return left Buck searching for a new place to put down roots after he handed Eddie’s home back over to him following a brief run subletting it when he was in Texas.

Hen passed on the offer to become Captain of the 118 in order to spend more time with her growing family with the season finale seeing Hen and Karen officially adopt Mara. Finally, we had Athena, who decided to sell the dream home she and Bobby had been building together, ending the season in the same position of Buck: in search of a new home and working to begin taking the first steps in moving forward without Bobby in their lives.

Is there a 911 season 9 trailer?

While there isn’t a more traditional trailer for the new season, ABC has dropped a series of promos that tease the latest natural disaster the 118 will face in the new season. In the new promo for 911 season 9, we see Buck, Maddie, Chimney, and Eddie all bracing for impact, literally, as a series of meteors is falling from the sky and heading straight toward the city.
