From the moment 911 made the shocking decision to kill off Peter Krause’s Captain Bobby Nash, fans have been speculating over who will step in to replace Bobby as captain at the 118.

After Bobby’s death, we saw Gerrard return for a temporary stint as captain of the 118. However, it was made clear that Gerrard would not be replacing Bobby full-time and that a new captain would have to be named in the forthcoming ninth season.

Following Bobby’s death, we learn that Hen was offered the job, but she didn’t feel like a good fit, and she turned the offer down. All eyes then shifted to Chimney becoming Bobby’s successor, with Hen even dropping a not-so-subtle “Copy that, Cap,” after Chimney delivered an emotional call to action speech in the season finale. However, as the most recent season of Chicago Fire taught us, just because a show hints that someone in-house will move into the Captain’s chair, it doesn’t mean that’s where the story will go!

Chicago Fire season 12 led fans to believe that Christopher Herrmann would become the new captain in season 13. Instead, the show brought in an entirely new character to take over as captain. Thankfully, it seems 911 is going to learn from Chicago Fire’s misstep.

Who will be the new captain of the 118 on 911?

One of the biggest mysteries of 911 season 9 seems to have been spoiled earlier than expected, with the identity of the 118’s new captain seemingly confirmed as Chimney!!

On Aug. 16, ABC released a special birthday message for star Angela Bassett, in which her costars all sent her their love from the set of season 9. Moments before emojis appear and cover his badge, fans are able to clearly see Kenneth Choi wearing a LAFD badge that reads “Captain.” The captain's badge was first spotted by a prominent 911 fan account, 911 News, which shared a zoomed-in still of the badge that clearly seems to indicate Chimney will be taking over as captain of the 118.

While it’s impossible to replace Bobby, there honestly is no one better than Chimney to take over as the new captain of the 118.

Bobby sacrificed himself to save Chimney, which was something that we saw Chimney struggle with in the episodes that followed. The idea that Bobby died so that Chimney could survive was a major part of Chimney’s final arc in season 8, and we imagine it’ll continue to come into play as he becomes captain and wrestles with honoring Bobby’s legacy.

We’re excited to see how Chimney adapts to being in charge and how it impacts the firehouse dynamics. Chimney is one of the most senior members of the firehouse, but it’s not always easy going from someone’s equal to being their boss. This is something we imagine the writers will explore in the season ahead, in what is sure to be an unforgettable and major season for Chimney.

Whatever the road ahead holds, we’re eager to see Chimney take this next step and can’t imagine a better selection to carry on Bobby’s legacy as the 118’s new captain!
