As we get closer to the start of 911 season 9, we’re looking for any sign of new characters. Well, while we don’t know about anyone new, we do have some exciting news about returning characters. Two guest stars from season 8 are being upped to series regulars for season 9.
While Athena has lost the love of her life, she is gaining her children back. Both Corinne Massiah and Elijah M. Cooper are being upped to series regulars for 911 season 9, meaning a lot more of May and Harry Grant.

Corinne Massiah was already a series regular on 911
This isn’t the first time Massiah has been upped to series regular. After initially getting a recurring role in season 1, she was upped to series regular for season 2 and remained there until the fifth season. It turns out that her character’s direction to head to college was actually in line with Massiah’s own studies.
Massiah headed to UCLA full-time, meaning that she wasn’t available for filming as often. However, she was able to step in and guest star when needed. Now that she’s graduated with a degree in sociology, she’s ready to return to the world of acting, and she’ll be back as May full-time.

Elijah M. Cooper is upped to series regular in 911 season 9 for the first time
As for Cooper, he’s played Harry Grant from the beginning of the series, but he has always had a guest spot on the series. In fact, he didn’t appear at all in the sixth season of the series, with the character being written out to spend time with his dad overseas. Many will remember that Rockmond Dunbar was written out of the series, with Michael going overseas on a humanitarian project, and Harry chose to go with him.
Harry returned in season 7, and he was around in season 8 to help Athena with her grief over the loss of Bobby. This is the first time Cooper has been upped to series regular, giving us a chance to see more of Harry and the man that he has become.

It’s time for the Grants to move forward
The end of season 8 brought a shocking and controversial turn of events with the death of Bobby Nash. Athena went through all the stages of grief, with her seeming to land on acceptance at the very end. While she focused on going back to work, May and Harry expected her to sell the dream house that she and Bobby had built, but she wasn’t thinking of that at first.
In the end, she chose to sell the house. Is it possible that she and her adult children will all live together as they find a way forward from the grief? Will May go back to working as a 911 dispatcher, the job she had before going to college? Could Harry end up with that job or perhaps choose to become a firefighter? We really need 911 season 9 now to find out!
911 season 9 will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 8/7c on ABC.
