Will Trent season 4 may be a long way off, with ABC confirming that new episodes won’t arrive until 2026, but that doesn’t mean fans are left in the dark. In fact, the hit police procedural series just recently hit a significant milestone. The cameras have officially started rolling on the upcoming installment, which means we're one step closer to uncovering the answers to season 3’s shocking cliffhangers.
According to Collider, author and executive producer Karin Slaughter revealed in an interview that filming for Will Trent season 4 began on Aug. 11, 2025. Although not confirmed, the cast and crew are most likely shooting the fourth season in Atlanta, Georgia. That's where they've filmed the past three seasons. Slaughter also shared in her interview that the new season will pick up directly after the events of the season 3 finale.
"There’s so many great new ideas [in Season 4]. There were so many cliffhangers in that last episode of the season, and they’re just picking up where they left off and doing amazing things."

Let's take a walk down memory lane for a quick second. The season 3 finale ended with the fates of two characters hanging in the balance. Those characters were Amanda Wagner, who was shot while protecting Angie during the domestic terrorism attack, and Michael Ormewood, whose sudden collapse left fans questioning the future of his health. Angie decides to keep her baby, and she and Seth share an intimate moment in the hospital. Meanwhile, Will is left single and worried about whether Amanda will make it or not.
Although plot details for season 4 have not been revealed yet, fans can expect the new season to pick up with these unresolved storylines. With Angie seemingly choosing to move on with Seth and their baby, where does that leave Will? In the past, they've had an on-again, off-again type of relationship, but it looks like that's completely over. Could Marion come back, and she and Will get back together? Or maybe Will will get a new love interest in the fourth season. It's about time the police procedural introduces the beloved book character, pediatrician and coroner Sara Linton.
We can only speculate for now. But one thing's for sure. We don't want to see any of our favorite characters face heartbreak, danger, or tragedy in the upcoming season. But can we really expect that when Will Trent's world is always full of high-stakes cases and unexpected threats? Unfortunately, we can't. We can only hope!
On Aug. 16, the official Will Trent Instagram page shared a video of the cast announcing that production had started on the fourth season.
