Will Trent won’t return until early next year, leaving fans with nothing but speculation about what could unfold in the upcoming fourth season. The season 3 finale ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, with the futures of two key characters uncertain. That's been constantly on viewers' minds. Another hot topic? Will’s love life. Things didn’t exactly wrap up smoothly for him on the romantic front at the end of the season, and fans are wondering what’s next for the troubled special agent's heart.
Spoilers are ahead from Will Trent season 3.
Well, it looks like there's a chance we might see someone new step into Will’s life in Will Trent season 4. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, series star Ramón Rodríguez was asked about what audiences can expect from the upcoming season. He basically mentioned that viewers can expect the show to dive into several serious and dramatic storylines that were left unresolved at the end of the third season.
He brought up storylines such as Angie's unexpected pregnancy, Amanda's health state, and the introduction of Will's father, whom we barely know much about. However, that's not all. Rodríguez also seemed to hint that Will's love life might develop or change.
"We’re about to begin these serious conversations. There were some pretty serious cliffhangers at the end of Season 3, where we find out Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen) is pregnant, and Will is definitely not the father, so that’s gonna be something to explore. Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn), who is a maternal figure for Will, is in the hospital bed. We just discovered his dad, [Sheriff Caleb Roussard], which we don’t know too much about, so I’d want to know more about the character and what happened with the mom. There’s just so many questions that we will get to explore — I mean, is there new love in Will’s life?"
Will ends Will Trent season 3 as a single man. He and Angie begin the season on rocky terms, and he eventually starts a relationship with a new character. That character is Assistant District Attorney Marion Alba. However, their romance takes a hit following an accidental shooting involving a teenage boy. Afterward, Will begins to distance himself and emotionally shut down. When they finally have a face-to-face conversation, Marion confesses her love for Will, but he doesn’t reciprocate. Realizing that continuing their relationship might not be the best choice, Marion suggests they take a break.
In the season 3 finale, Will is by Angie’s side at the hospital when they receive the good news that her baby is okay. For a brief moment, it seems like there might be a chance for them to reconcile and give their relationship another try. Of course, Angie would need to end things with Seth first. However, when Seth walks into the room, it becomes clear that Angie is genuinely ready to move forward and fully commit to building a future with him and their baby.
That leaves Will by himself. But maybe he won't be single for long. When Will Trent returns with its fourth season, perhaps we'll see him meet a new woman. If you're a fan of the books, you'd know that Will has another love interest besides Angie. Her name is Sara Linton, and she's a pediatrician and part-time coroner. With Will single as a Pringle, it would be the perfect time to bring her into the series. Book fans have been waiting for Sara's introduction since the show's start, so why not?
If not her, then definitely a woman who truly gets Will. He deserves someone who can understand his complicated past and support him through the challenges he faces.
