Does TJ die in the Doc season 2 premiere?

Fortunately, TJ survives the events of the premiere. So, here's how everything plays out. At the beginning of the episode, Amy and TJ check on their new patient, Rosie, which is a young woman who is in desperate need of a new heart. But when Amy enters Rosie's room, Rosie's dad (Alex) is immediately disgusted by Amy and doesn't want her anywhere near him and his sick daughter.

We find out later in the episode that the reason why Alex doesn't like Amy is because he had brought Rosie to Westside years ago, hoping to secure her a heart transplant. Amy, believing it was in the girl’s best interest, convinced him to pursue alternative treatments first instead of rushing into the transplant. But now that they're back in the hospital with the same problem, Alex blames Amy. However, Amy has no recollection of the earlier encounter because of her accident that wiped eight years of her memory.

After finding a spot on one of Rosie's lungs, Amy and TJ discuss the next steps with Michael. The right protocol is to report it to UNOS, but if they do so, it could take Rosie off the heart transplant list. Ultimately, this is what they decide to do, and Amy and TJ then inform Alex of their decision. This angers Alex and leads him to sneakily take a security guard's gun before holding the entire hospital hostage.

Jake tries to stop him, but is hit in the face with the gun and falls to the ground. TJ then rushes Alex to try to do the same, but the gun goes off, and TJ ends up shot in the femoral artery in his thigh. Amy yells at Alex that TJ needs to be taken to the OR and looked at right away, or he could die. Alex then tells Jake to take him. As he's being rushed to the OR, TJ tells Jake and the others not to tell his parents until he's out of surgery. Meanwhile, Alex demands that the hospital staff get him the heart for Rosie or people will be harmed.

Later on, Amy is able to call the OR to check on TJ while still being held hostage. But it's not good news that she learns. She finds out TJ is losing circulation, putting him at serious risk of dying. At the end of the episode, the hostage situation is finally resolved and Alex is arrested. Thankfully, TJ makes it through surgery. However, it's unclear if he's completely out of danger. The last time we see him in the first episode, he's asleep as Amy checks on him. We'll have to tune in to the next episode to see how TJ recovers and whether he faces any complications from his surgery.

Given that the actor behind the TJ character, Patrick Walker, was bumped up to series regular for the second season, we doubt TJ will be killed off anytime soon. So, that's good news.

The second episode of Doc season 2 is scheduled to air on Fox on Sept. 30, at 9/8c.
