911 season 9 is set to blast off on ABC on Thursday, Oct. 9, and we of course mean "blast off" literally. The season has been confirmed to go where no other season has gone before: Outer space. But space isn't the only uncharted territory the 118 are taking on this season. There's also a shocking disaster that takes them to the belly of a whale. They're always keeping it interesting!
One character in particular always keeps 911 interesting, and that's none other than Buck (Oliver Stark). For the past two seasons since coming out as bisexual, Buck has been exploring his personal life. Last season, he was approached with questioning, particularly by his sister Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), whether he had feelings for his best friend Eddie (Ryan Guzman).
For the first time, 911 addressed head-on the possibility of romantic feelings between Buck and Eddie after fans had basically been shipping them since Eddie arrived in season 2. Buck had been acting jealous for Eddie's attention and missing him while he was in Texas. But Buck insisted that he didn't harbor any feelings for his best friend. Will that still be the case in season 9?
Buck hasn't revisited potential feelings for Eddie in 911 season 9
According to an interview Oliver Stark gave TV Line before the 911 season 9 premiere, the topic of Buddie hasn't been revisited yet this season. The actor revealed that so far in the episodes that they have filmed, Buck hasn't thought about that or been approached with it again, but that doesn't mean the topic won't come up before the end of season 9. But there's definitely no Buddie developments.

"I don't think it's rolling around in his brain. I don't think it was rolling around in his brain back in season 8. It was something that was brought to him. I think he gave what is his honest answer in that moment. 'No, what are you talking about? That's Eddie, that's my best friend.' We haven't gone back to that as of yet. You know, nobody's brought that to him again," Stark revealed to TV Line.
Stark also shared that he doesn't think Buck ever considered romantic interest in Eddie last season: "But I don't think Buck is lying when he was answering those question, right? That was his truth. It was a bizarre suggestion to him. It was something that he had never considered before. And we have, as I said, yet to reevaluate or revisit that, so as it stands, that would still be his answer."
In a separate interview with TV Line, the actor described his character's storylines in 911 season 9 in three words, and they are very intriguing words: "adjustment, leadership, kinky." Kinky?! Before you get too excited about that having something to do with Buddie, Stark already said that hasn't come up yet. He also revealed the show will be further exploring Buck's bisexual identity.
"I just think people are ignorant to it sometimes, so I would love to have some storylines — which there will be coming up — where there is a bit more dialogue about the fact that he is a bisexual man, and what that means, and who he is attracted to," Stark said in response to some viewers who now seem to only view Buck as gay rather than bisexual. Sounds like a new love interest is on the way!
If you're someone who has been holding out hope for a bigger development in the Buddie ship, you might have to patiently wait while the ship is docked. It might not even set sail for all we know. This probably isn't the update shippers were hoping for after the questions surrounding Buck and Eddie came up last season, but if 911 can go to space, stranger things can happen.
911 season 9 premieres Thursday, Oct. 9 at 8/7c on ABC, streaming next day on Hulu.
