Just when we thought 911 couldn’t top itself and its crazy disaster scenarios, the show went and proved it’s not done surprising us. In fact, its newest natural disaster is going to be out of this world, and yes, we mean that literally.

During Dancing with the Stars, ABC debuted a new teaser for 911 season 9 which revealed Athena and Hen are going to space! The spot saw Athena and Hen rocking some sleek space suits as they made their way on board a spacecraft. We then saw the pair literally taking to the sky and heading into space, proving there is truly nothing Athena Grant cannot and will not do to protect and serve the great city of Los Angeles.

Details around the premiere disaster have not been revealed, but the first promo for the season teased that the sky was falling. The viral promo saw the various members of the 118 bracing for impact as meteors came flying down from the sky. This seemed to hint that the first episodes of season 9 would find a meteor storm hitting the LA area and causing destruction across the city.

Fans anticipated that the opening episodes would simply see the 118 dealing with the fallout of the meteors striking the LA area, but it seems the writers have bigger plans in place. Plans that will literally take Athena and Hen to space… and fans are reeling over the decision.

“Good lord, they're sending her into space,” commented one fan on social media.

One fan pointed out that they were only joking when they mentioned sending Athena to space after the first promo dropped, writing, “It was a joke, we didn't actually want her in space.” Echoed another fan, “I have to laugh.”

The decision to send Athena and Hen into space is one that has turned heads with some fans likening it to a jump-the-shark moment like Fast and the Furious. Others couldn’t help but point out the absurdity of the plotline noting, “Of course they're sending Athena to space, who better to solve this issue than LAPD?”

It’s definitely going to be interesting to see what exactly leads Athena and Hen to space, but it’s certain the moment is sure to be one of the show’s most unexpected and wild storylines yet. And honestly, we’re here for it! Athena is truly a goddess among us and there’s no one we’d rather have on the case to save the day!

911 returns Thursday, Oct. 9 at 8/7c on ABC!
