If you have been watching Matlock season 2, then you're completely locked in on the week-to-week rollercoaster that is Matty and Olympia's friendship. One week they're up and the next week they're down as they continue to navigate the tricky personal territory they have found themselves in as they fight to bring down Senior for the Wellbrexa coverup.
Unfortunately, we're about to take a break from the rollercoaster as CBS will be sidelining Matlock season 2 for the remainder of November 2025. Following the Nov. 13 episode of the legal drama, CBS pulled Matlock from the schedule, but don't worry. Matty and Olympia will be back with new episodes before the end of the year. Plus, we already know when the show's back in 2026.
Is Matlock new on Nov. 20 and Thanksgiving 2025?
No, CBS will not be airing a new episode of Matlock season on Thursday, Nov. 20. The network will be airing new episodes of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, Ghosts, and Elsbeth as planned, but Elsbeth will be airing in the place of Matlock at 9/8c. Additionally, a repeat airing of the Elsbeth season 3 premiere airs at 10/9c, making for a two-hour block of Elsbeth.
There also will not be a new episode of Matlock on Thursday, Nov. 27, which is Thanksgiving Day. In fact, CBS will be pulling its entire Thursday night lineup in favorite of sports. The network begins the sporting events at 4:30 p.m. ET with the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Dallas Cowboys NFL football game, which leads into the Duke vs. Arkansas NCAA basketball game at 8 p.m. ET. Another repeat of Elsbeth airs at 10 p.m. ET following the college basketball game.
As mentioned above, this isn't the end of the road for Matlock season 2 in 2025. The series returns with a pair of new episodes in December: episode 7 ("Prior Bad Acts") on Thursday, Dec. 4 and episode 8 ("Call It a Christmas Gift") on Thursday, Dec. 11. From there, CBS isn't expected to air any additional new episodes of the series for the remainder of the year.
Unfortunately, here's where the longest wait for new episodes of Matlock season 2 kicks in. Rather than returning in January 2026 with brand-new episodes, CBS has opted to hold the vast majority of its original scripted series until February 2026 in order to make way for the Winter Olympics and reduce the need to air reruns and disrupt the release schedule for fans.
After airing the midseason finale on Dec. 11, Matlock season 2 won't return with new episodes until Thursday, Feb. 26. The show stays put at its 9/8c timeslot following Georgie & Mandy and Ghosts from 8-9 and leading into Elsbeth at 10. It's going to be a lengthy drought without finding out what happens next for Matty and Olympia, so savor the final two episodes of 2025!
