There are some big changes ahead for Matlock season 2 on CBS, and we're not talking about those that have occurred behind the scenes. The upcoming changes will directly impact viewers as the ongoing back and forth between Matty and Olympia will be taking some time off after the latest new episode. That's right, we're headed for an extended break.
After airing its final new episode of the month on Thursday, Nov. 13, Matlock season 2 will be pulled from the schedule for the following two weeks. CBS will not be airing a new episode of Matlock on Thursday, Nov. 20. In its place, Elsbeth will air a new episode in its 9/8c timeslot before airing a repeat of the season 3 premiere at 10/9c.
Of course, the following Thursday, Nov. 27, is the Thanksgiving holiday. CBS will be airing NCAA men's basketball in place of its Thursday night lineup, though another Elsbeth repeat will air following the game between Duke and Arkansas. Even though Matlock will be pulled from the schedule for two weeks following this week's new episode, we already know when a new episode will air.
Once the two-week break at the end of November comes to an end, Matlock season 2 will be back on Thursday, Dec. 4 with a new episode titled "Prior Bad Acts." Thankfully, this isn't expected to be the midseason finale based on the show's schedule from last season. In its first season, the series aired its seventh and eighth episodes in the beginning of December.
Right on par with its debut season, Matlock season 2 will air its seventh episode on Dec. 4, which suggests that the eighth episode will air on Thursday, Dec. 11. That should be the final new episode of the year before the show's eventual return in January 2026. Last season, the series returned on Jan. 30, though CBS has yet to set midseason returns dates as of this writing.
Before takings its pre-Thanksgiving break, Matlock ends November with "Harm Reduction." This season, Matty and Olympia's friendship and working relationship have been tested week after week. Currently, the pair seem to be on the outs as Olympia can't seem to bring herself to trust Matty after all of the lies she has told and the lies she has brought Olympia to tell at the expense of Julian.
In this week's episode, Matty and Olympia will continue to see the boundaries of their friendship tested as they work on a case involving a group of nuns. Perhaps this will be the week that the pair finally begin to see eye to eye and remain on good terms. Elsewhere in the episode, Olympia and Sarah are "roped into secretive activities" happening at the firm. What could that mean?
After its last episode in November, Matlock season 2 returns on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 9/8c on CBS.
