This post contains spoilers from Matlock season 2 episode 3 from this point forward.
So far, Matlock season 2 has been quite the rollercoaster! The first two episodes have changed the game in Matty (Kathy Bates) and Olympia's (Skye P. Marshall) cat and mouse chase over the Wellbrexa document. One minute they are allies, the next the are enemies, and then they go back and forth over and over again. Currently, they're on the outs with Olympia holding all the leverage.
In last week's episode, Matty and Olympia continued to fight over ownership of the Wellbrexa document and how to move forward with resolving the situation. To keep Matty from taking the information to the New York Times, Olympia recorded Matty's threat with the intention to release it to the public. Now, they're back at square one with Olympia in power.
Matlock season 2 episode 3 finds Matty and Olympia dealing with their strained working and personal relationship as the executive committee arrives at the office due to a security breach. Could this security breach release any Wellbrexa information? Meanwhile, the team tackles a case between hot chicken shops that's sure to get fiery! The episode also features guest stars Justina Machado and Yvette Nicole Brown.

A security breach over Wellbrexa hits Jacobson Moore
In the opening of the episode, Matty and Olympia share an elevator up to the office. Olympia had told Matty not to come to work, but are we surprised she didn't listen? Matty brings a fiddle-leaf fig tree to prevent Olympia from telling people she's leaving the firm. Tensions are high in the office because of the security breach, which definitely has something to do with Wellbrexa. The executive committee has been called in, even Eva Muñoz (Justina Machado), Senior's ex-wife.
Sarah notices the tension between Matty and Olympia, but she couldn't know why. The reason the reporter has contacted the firm about the matter has to do with Matty's call to the New York Times with her claims but never taking the meeting. After Matty alerts her family that the firm knows about a mole, they want her to come home. But she takes on Nadine's (Yvette Nicole Brown) case defending her chicken restaurant against a copycat food truck. Olympia won't let her leave anyway.
Matty receives news from Edwin that Alfie's father, Joey, checked into rehab. She helps Olympia prep for her meeting with The Wolf (James Lesure), the head of security who's interviewing all of the lawyers involved with the Wellbrexa case. Olympia almost pushes her meeting to help Sarah and Billy's case, but Matty insists she keeps it so she has an excuse to be nervous. Thankfully, she holds her own in her interview because of Matty's body language advice.
What happens to Mrs. B in Matlock season 2 episode 3?
Emmalyn (Patricia Belcher) pulls Matty aside to inform her that she has a meeting with the head of security and admits that she broke protocol. She believes that she's going to be fired after her meeting. Matty brings Olympia in on the secret that Emmalyn, Mrs. B, is the Redditor who wrote the post that started it all. Matty suggests finding someone else to take the fall, and Olympia doesn't have a better option. Of course, they argue again about how to move forward.
Billy stands up for Sarah when Olympia continues to downplay her frequent tension with Matty. As the tensions also continue to flare in the negotiations for the chicken case, it comes down to Matty partaking in a blindfolded fried chicken taste test. She can't tell the difference between the two pieces of chicken, which throws a wrench in the case. The hits keep coming: Olympia has a second meeting with The Wolf, and Eva's asking questions. The kicker? Olympia mentioned the Times.
Olympia sees the way out of this mess as allowing Emmalyn to take the fall with her confession. Matty doesn't want that to happen because it's not right. Edwin tells Matty that she's reacting to this situation like "polar white," the paint color in their old house. It wasn't about the color, it was about control. Matty feels out of control. The next day, Matty suggests to Nadine to let go of a little control to protect her Nana's legacy. They find a positive resolution to her case.
Meanwhile, Matty accepts that Emmalyn will have to take the brunt of this mess and convinces her to say she was the leak. Olympia watches with welling tears as Emmalyn gets fired by The Wolf and Senior. She's escorted out of the building and meets Matty for drinks for a "retirement" celebration. (Matty gifted her half a million dollars anonymously.) Eva chats with Olympia, and her intentions are confusing. Is she overtaking Senior?
Olympia and Matty agree to bring down Senior, and Olympia even agrees to Matty's request for Julian to apologize to her, Edwin, and Alfie to their faces. One step ahead of Olympia, Matty used Emmalyn's credentials to swipe an important file that contains details that are vital to their Wellbrexa case. Not only are they aligned, but they have new ammunition for their next phase.
