Even though Matlock season 2 began with Matty and Olympia seemingly working on the same side, Matty's double-crossing was revealed in the closing moments of the premiere. She discovered Olympia had been lying to her and found the Wellbrexa document in a safe in her home. Matty swiped the document and plans to bring the story of Jacobson Moore's complicity to the public.
However, the second part of what CBS has been touting as a two-night premiere finds Matty and Olympia facing off over the Wellbrexa document. Obviously, Olympia found the fake one Matty planted. Olympia's motives are to protect Julian for the sake of their children and work to implicate Senior, who's also at fault in the matter, perhaps even more so than Julian.
Matty's always one step ahead, but will she be able to remain one step ahead of whatever Olympia has been planning? As if Matty doesn't have enough on her plate with this ever-changing alliance and friendship with Olympia, Alfie's father has come into their lives and a DNA test revealed he isn't sober. Will Matty and Edwin choose to extend an olive branch and help him out?

Olympia discovers the missing Wellbrexa document
The episode opens with Edwin eager to find out whether the New York Times have responded to Matty's email, but she hasn't heard back yet. They also worry how Alfie will react to them setting boundaries with Joey, and he presents them with two rehab options. He doesn't react well ("I hate you!") when they turn him down. In better news, the Times responds and they're all smiles again.
While on the phone with Matty, Olympia goes to grab her coat and notices a gray hair. Concerned, she checks the safe and is relieved to still see the document. However, when she flips through, she sees nothing but blank pages. She officially knows that the document has been stolen, but does she immediately know that Matty was the culprit?
Sarah's a little jealous that Matty's handling the court hearing, but her day gets worse when she gets blackmailed into doing busy work because the truth about her side case has been found out. Matty hits a snag in court, but she's confronted by Olympia about the document. Yes, she does know it was Matty. Olympia apologizes that she lied, but then reveals that the document was fake. What?!
Olympia explains that she created an AI generate document in case Julian went snooping. But where is the real one? Is she even telling the truth? Matty refuses to slow down to help Olympia with Julian, and they trade threats. In a last-ditch effort, Matty pleads that Olympia brings her the document and does the right thing. If she doesn't agree, Matty will only have circumstantial evidence.
The next morning, Matty has been assigned to take over the court case because Olympia has come down with "laryngitis" and has lost her voice. It's clearly a ploy to keep Matty from taking her meeting with the Times. Oh, this back and forth is getting messier and messier by the minute.
Does Matty go public with the Wellbrexa story?
When court ends, Olympia's voice comes back and Matty's down her throat. Sarah opens up to Olympia about Simone knowing what happened with her case. Julian snaps on Billy's incessant lines of questioning, which forces Olympia to pull him away. She uses it as an opportunity to question him about why he didn't say no to his father and alert him to how serious the situation has become.
Matty assumed that Olympia was on her way to Senior, but she confronts her in the parking garage. She wants to keep Julian out of jail and do the right thing. She also admits that the real document is in a safety deposit box in Connecticut. Matty sends Edwin to Connecticut with Olympia to make sure the Wellbrexa study gets to where it needs to be and there's no funny business.
Olympia uses their road trip to work Edwin on wanting to take Senior down for what happened with Wellbrexa. She appeals to Edwin about her feelings about Matty lying to her for a year, an emotional appeal to convince him not to talk with the Times. Matty has a scary time in court, but she's relieved that Edwin's still set on taking the story public. They also decide the need to help Joey.
The next turn of events? Olympia dropped Edwin off at a gas station and stole his phone. The document she hands over to Matty is the blank one. She's not going along with Matty's plan. Their face off gets even more ruthless, with each of them threatening jail time to the other. Edwin takes a side quest to offer Joey a stay at rehab.
Matty and Ediwn agree to the terms of their eventual move to San Francisco. They receive a phone call from Olympia saying the Wellbrexa document has been emailed, but what they receive is a recording of the threat Matty spewed at Olympia earlier. Just like the premiere episode, Olympia's scheming is revealed. Well, Matty can't take her story public now that Olympia stole Matty's leverage.
