From the moment that it was confirmed that a Scrubs revival was being produced for ABC, there has been an incredible amount of excitement for the beloved sitcom to return. In fact, some fans have been trying to learn everything they can about the revival, including closely paying attention to every major announcement about the cast.
Even with so many Scrubs fans paying attention, that doesn't mean that some news about the revival can't fly under the radar. In fact, recent comments that John C. McGinley made about the reboot have gone completely unnoticed by most observers. Unfortunately, if most dedicated viewers found out what McGinley just revealed about his role in the return of Scrubs, they might be worried.

John C. McGinley made a worrisome comment about how his Scrubs return
In the modern media landscape, fans have the opportunity to engage with celebrities in ways that were previously unfathomable. One example of this is the fact that Cameo allows fans to pay the celebrities on that website to make personalized videos for them. In November 2025, a link to a Cameo video recorded by John C. McGinley meant to wish a fan a birthday party was posted on the r/Scrubs subreddit. The reason why fans would care about that video was that McGinley spoke about his filming schedule for the Scrubs revival during the video.
As McGinley recorded himself wishing the fan a happy birthday, he volunteered the information that he was in Dublin, Ireland. More importantly, McGinley explained that he would soon be flying to Canada to film scenes for the Scrubs revival. Of course, learning that McGinley is preparing to film more scenes as Dr. Perry Cox is exciting. The problem is that McGinley also made a worrisome statement about filming scenes for the revival's premiere after the rest of the cast.
""I'm leaving from here on the 14th, to go to Vancouver where we are doing the reboot of Scrubs. They shot the whole first episode, but this trip conflicted with me being able to get with them on time. So, they pushed the Dr. Cox stuff, which is very funny, it's going to crush you, until Tuesday the 14th.""John C. McGinley
Based on those remarks from McGinley, there are two possibilities. One possibility is that McGinley will be filming his scenes for the Scrubs revival's premiere without his co-stars since they've already completed their parts. If that is the case, they would be severely disappointing since the cast's interplay has always been one of the best parts of Scrubs.
The other scenario would be that the rest of the cast have only filmed their scenes from the premiere that don't involve McGinley and they will still be shooting scenes for the debut episode with him. In that case, there is nothing concerning about his remarks. Since there is no way to know which scenario is accurate, McGinley's comments are worrisome.
During the same Cameo video, McGinley made one more comment about the Scrubs revival. In that case, McGinley didn't give fans anything to worry about. Instead, McGinley just gave a small tease that can tantalize fans with the possible storyline implications. Near the end of the video, McGinley states that he is growing a beard for his Scrubs character. "I'm growing this scraggle for Coxy." Since Dr. Cox often didn't have a beard on the show, it is fascinating to contemplate why McGinley would be growing one to portray the character.
