The Scrubs revival has gotten several exciting cast updates

After plans for the Scrubs revival were first revealed, it was a huge deal when Zach Braff signed his deal to return. Since then, many more casting details for Scrubs season 10 have been confirmed, including that Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke will also star in the revival. For example, an NBC news affiliate's article states that Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley will return as Carla Espinosa and Perry Cox in guest roles.

While that is all the specific cast information about the Scrubs revival that has been revealed to date, more exciting news has been teased. In August 2025, there was a lot of discussion about the revival during an episode of the "Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald" podcast. On top of Donald implying that the season is likely to be nine episodes long during that podcast episode, Zach gave an exciting cast update.

"Everybody's coming back. Not everyone's going to be in every episode. Obviously, you have to work around everybody's schedules, but everybody's coming back."

Sadly, there is one of Scrubs' stars who can't return to his role on the show. Sam Lloyd passed away in 2020 after he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. A beloved part of the original show's cast, it still seems likely that the upcoming season could pay tribute to Sam and his character, Ted Buckland.

What is known about the Scrubs revival's storyline?

In July 2025, ABC News published an article about the plans for the Scrubs revival. As a part of that article, the outlet quoted a press release that had been released by ABC that detailed some very basic plot details about the show's return.

"JD and Turk scrub in together for the first time in a long time - medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart, and some surprises along the way."

During the aforementioned episode of Zach Braff and Donald Faison's podcast, more was revealed about the plans for the Scrubs revival's storyline. While discussing how excited he is to bring the show back, Zach stated that they were still figuring out what the show's return would be like at that time. However, Zach attested that the show would retain the silly tone that fans love about it.

"We're still figuring out what the show is. And obviously, it's going to have the same tone and silliness you love."

Even though Zach stated that Scrubs will be as silly as ever, the sitcom's creator and showrunner revealed there will still be notable character growth. When Bill Lawrence spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in August 2025, he confirmed that Scrubs' main character, John Dorian, will be different during the revival. Bill revealed that by telling the outlet that Zach Braff insisted his character needs to have matured.

"One of the first things Zach Braff said was, I cannot be a 50-year-old doing the same things. I have to be older, I have to be more mature."
