It's official! There's some amazing news for you Scrubs fans hoping that the reboot would happen. After months of speculation and negotiations, ABC has officially picked up the revival, also known as Scrubs 2.0, for a full series order! That means we're getting a whole new season of the show.

In May 2025, it was revealed that lead actor Zach Braff, who played John "J.D." Dorian, had signed on to the medical drama and would reprise his role if it was going to be picked up by the network. His co-stars Donald Faison (Christopher Turk) and Sarah Chalke (Elliot Reid) had been in negotiations to return, though nothing was confirmed at that point. Until now!

With the show getting a straight to series order, that exciting news also comes with the fact that Faison and Chalke have signed their contracts and will be a part of the project in series regular roles, Deadline reports. The reboot is in really good hands with the trio executive producing. Plus, original creator Bill Lawrence is back as well with OG showrunners and EPs Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra.

Judy Reyes, who played the role of Carla Espinosa, is currently starring in another ABC show, Kaitlin Olsen-led series High Potential which returns for season 2 this fall. So she'll be busy with her work on that. Though Deadline shares that there's been "positive scheduling conversations" between the two shows to allow her to possibly reprise her role in the Scrubs reboot in some capacity as well. That's definitely great news! The more original cast members, the better for sure.

An episode count and exact premiere date haven't been confirmed as of yet. The new show will focus on J.D. and the other original characters we've come to know and love over the years when the medical drama ran from 2001 to 2010. We'll get to see what's happened in their lives in the last 15 years. Along with that, new characters will be introduced as a new set of surgical interns make their way through. Here's a full synopsis of the revival, provided by Deadline:

"The new series will follow JD Dorian (Braff) and Christopher Turk (Faison), who scrub in together for the first time in a long time- medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way."

The pick up news comes as ABC is in its second cycle of its own personal pilot season, looking for projects to either allow them to create a pilot to impress executives, or get a straight to series order. Thankfully, Scrubs 2.0 got to skip a step of sorts and go ahead for a full season order.

It's the second show green lit for the 2025-2026 midseason schedule and given a full season order, joining 911: Nashville. Other shows still waiting to see if they'll just get a chance to create a pilot episode are The Rookie North, Do You Want Kids?, and Mittens.
