Looks like ABC might be taking a page out of Netflix's book for one of the pilots it's looking into possibly ordering for the midseason schedule. While TV pilot season is usually January through April each year with the big broadcast companies, ABC has been doing its own thing and doing two cycles a year for consideration. One of them is a new show called Do You Want Kids? And the premise of it sounds very familiar.

If you're a fan of Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart, you may have watched her 2022 romantic comedy movie on Netflix called Look Both Ways. It centers around her character, Natalie, a senior college student ready to graduate. On the night of the celebrations, she feels sick and takes a pregnancy test. When that happens, her life splits into two parallel realities: one where she's pregnant and one where she isn't.

Well, that's basically the premise of the new series being pitched to ABC, and now the network is considering if the single-camera comedy will be one of the ideas it wants to pick up and order. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend actress Rachel Bloom would be the lead star in the show, as well as take on co-writing and executive producing duties with husband Dan Gregor, per Deadline. The news outlet shares that Steve Levitan, who created Modern Family, would also executive produce.

Honestly, it has a good premise which is "a husband and wife who in one universe have a baby and in the other do not, and the many ways that huge decision alters their lives," Deadline reports. So the story is definitely there, and the project is also backed up by a really good creative team. Personally, I think it has a pretty good shot at gaining ABC's favor.

It's interesting that it's so similar to the Netflix movie, Look Both Ways. I wonder if the film influenced it at all. Personally, I enjoyed Reinhart's performance and think the film was unique in a world that feels like everything is so repetitive. So I wouldn't mind a comedy like Do You Want Kids? Especially in a time and world where couples are increasingly choosing, or at least contemplating, whether they should and want to have children. It's makes it relatable.

ABC has already picked up RJ Decker, while The Rookie spin-off, The Rookie North, and the Scrubs reboot are looking like they have a good chance. There's even a family comedy being considered called Mittens which is told from the point-of-view of the titular neighborhood cat. Interesting, I guess.
