Just a few episodes in, it's becoming clear High Potential needs to wrap up this one major mystery rather than drawing it out.

High Potential has a lot going for it, such as a strong-willed, humor-driven lead in Morgan and a solid ensemble cast in Karadec, Oz, Daphne, and Soto. This show's strengths stem from its ability to tell captivating mysteries-of-the-week as it continues to grow out the bonds between the main cast.

All the while, High Potential toes the line between serious and light-hearted, creating a tone that is welcoming for viewers looking for dramas or comedies. But, where this series risks falling short is with its Roman Sinquerra mystery that has acted as a background subplot throughout the entirety of season 1 and the early episodes of season 2.

The Roman Sinquerra subplot initially acted as a catalyst for Morgan to continue working with the detectives. If Soto helped Morgan find Roman, Morgan would start working with the detectives in major crimes. Yet, the far more interesting side of this deal is Morgan's involvement in solving cases, as that is what the entire show is based around. Morgan herself barely, if ever, actually participates in trying to find Roman. In the meantime, this plot line has taken a backseat to every focal mystery-of-the-week this series has covered so far. With Roman, it is one step forward and two steps back as High Potential continues to slowly reveal information about his alleged whereabouts, such as the early season 2 revelation that Roman had been in Nevada fairly recently.

Overall, High Potential is a very strong show in absolutely every element, and does not necessarily need the Roman subplot to be successful. Instead, what season 2 has done with it so far, as a missing father figure, is more interesting than the mystery surrounding him. The idea that Roman had been forced away from his family brings up interesting character development for Ava at the prospect that her father had been so close and chosen to stay away.

Meanwhile, Morgan could definitely use some closure from Roman's absence. Yet, the stakes behind Roman's original disappearance and his potential role in the show, if and or when he is ever reunited with Morgan and Ava, lessen in each episode the character has yet to appear and no new information has risen about him.

The mystery of Roman's disappearance is not strong enough on its own to last as the show's backbone for years. The questions surrounding Roman need to be confronted and answered in season 2. While some mysteries have enough juice to last them for long periods of time, the aspect of Roman is never enough of a focal point in the episodes as a whole in order to justify it being a years-long lasting subplot.

Besides, this storyline risks becoming more dull than interesting by the time answers are actually revealed. To a degree, High Potential is starting to reach territory where the answers about Roman need to feel like they were worth it to wait so long for reveals about a plot line that mostly existed in the background of the show for a majority of its run so far.

Either make the Roman mystery a larger part of the main plot line and explore it further, or reveal answers sooner to finally move on. Either way, answers need to be given by the end of season 2 in order for Roman to feel more like a relevant character with stakes surrounding him than the aspect of chasing a ghost.
