Meredith is about to find herself in hot water in Grey’s Anatomy season 22 episode 4 thanks to another returning face. Does this person have a point?

It looks like Grey’s Anatomy is the season of returning faces. We already got one surprise return in the second hour of the season, with Kelly McCreary returning as Maggie Pierce. This return opened a surprising and arguably unnecessary arc, but it did set the stage for Amelia Shepherd to realize that it was time to take a leave of absence.

Now there’s another surprise return, but this time, it isn’t to offer any pleasant words of advice. The promo gives us a look at Jesse Williams’s return to the series.

Jackson Avery is back in Grey’s Anatomy season 22 episode 4

There are a few returns we wouldn’t expect, such as McCreary, but then there are others that make sense considering the setup of the hospital. Jackson Avery is back in Grey’s Anatomy season 22 episode 4, and it’s likely linked directly to Meredith’s arc.

The promo brings up that Koracick is publishing his Alzheimer’s research, despite it only being tested on male mice. As we learned in Grey’s Anatomy season 22, not only did Catherine decide to hire Koracick to continue the research that Meredith had secretly started, but he also refused to test on female mice. The reason? Hormones.

The hormones were messing up the results, and rather than be a good doctor and researcher and work through that, he chose to just cut out the females and focus on the men. That would be fine if Alzheimer’s only affected men, but it doesn’t. In fact, the majority of sufferers are women, so research with hormones in mind is necessary, and Meredith and Amelia both understand that.

It doesn’t look like Jackson cares all that much about the research. He’s more annoyed that Meredith has remained in Seattle for so long when she has a lab back in Boston to work in. Maybe she should head back there, and this looks to set up Meredith stepping away from Grey’s Anatomy for a while.

Could Jackson be there for another reason?

Jackson may not only be around for Meredith’s storyline. We met the new Plastics fellow, Dr. Mohanty, during Grey’s Anatomy season 22 episode 3, but we’ve never met the new Chief of Plastics at the hospital since Jackson left.

There was a mention of the person, but they weren’t in the hospital at the time. Could Jackson come to Seattle to help the new fellow settle in if the Chief isn’t around? With Blue strangely determined to get into this line of medicine, Jackson could also offer him some advice while there.
