A few weeks ago, CBS announced its fall 2025 schedule, and there was one show we definitely noticed was missing in the network's lineup. That would be our fave, Watson. Unfortunately, we won't be expecting the series to return this year, and will have to wait until January 2026 for Watson season 2. It's a much longer wait than anticipated, though there's a reason for it.
Most of the time when network series' premiere in the midseason, they end up returning in the fall later that year. However, this won't be the case with season 2 of the drama which is returning to the Sunday time slot at 10 p.m. ET. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach spoke with Deadline and shared the reasoning behind pushing the return of the show to next year.
"There truly was a lack of room on the schedule. You look at that schedule, there’s no other real logical place for it.”

I mean, she's not wrong. Doesn't mean we have to like it! The fall schedule on CBS is pretty jam-packed this time around with other content like the final season of The Neighborhood, NCIS Tuesday nights, Taylor Sheridan's new Yellowstone spin-off Y: Marshalls, and more. The NFL season was also a factor in the decision-making process as football season kicks off in the fall.
This is disappointing news for us fans who were looking forward to getting more the drama sooner rather than later. We especially want to know the aftermath of Moriarty's passing and how it will effect the titular character and story going forward. Though it looks like we're just going to have to continue to be patient and wait until next year to see how it all plays out.
Ahead of Watson season 2 on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET, first you'll be able to catch Tracker season 3 at 8 p.m. ET, followed by Y: Marshalls at 9 p.m. ET. It's actually a pretty good lineup for Sunday nights. Football will still be going on at this time, so that makes us a bit nervous. Though I think the show has a better chance in January rather than the start of football season in the fall.
So I guess CBS was thinking about that major factor as well. Reisenbach also noted to Deadline that the Morris Chestnut-led series also does very well for the network on its streaming platform, Paramount+. So the company does take those viewership numbers into account as well, and this makes her confident that enough people will be watching the show with its "loyal fan base over on Paramount+."
