Watson season 2 sadly won’t be coming until 2026

Watson season 2 is happening at CBS, but we have to wait until the midseason. It's also on the move.

CBS has announced its fall 2025 schedule, and there is one medical detective series missing off the list. Watson season 2 is going to be held until the midseason.

In a way, this won’t be surprising news. The series started as a midseason series, and it didn’t take off in a way that would encourage CBS to move it to the fall. Keeping it as a midseason series not only gives it a chance to succeed, but it also helps to ease up the fall schedule, which is looking packed with a mixture of new and returning shows.

When could Watson season 2 premiere on CBS?

The Morris Chestnut-led series will be held until January 2026 at the earliest. While a lot of fall shows go off the air in November or early December for the winter hiatus, it doesn’t make sense to start a new season of a series around that time, unless it’s a seasonal special. The broadcast networks hold their midseason until at least January.

Watson season 1 premieres on Sunday, Jan. 26, but that was a special premiere off the back of the AFC Championship game, giving the series a boost in the linear ratings. As the series will continue to air on Sundays, it’s more likely that CBS will hold the series until February 2026, airing after the Super Bowl.

Sundays are packed with awards show shows and NFL games throughout January and early February. It means a stop-start schedule, and that’s not good for the future of a series. So, instead, many networks have started to hold off until the middle of February.

The Camgirl Inquiry
“The Camgirl Inquiry” - Stephens musters the courage to ask Watson to help him when his camgirl suddenly collapses during a video call but he does not know anything about her real life, so the team must act quickly to locate her before it’s too late. Meanwhile, Watson grapples with guilt over Sherlock’s death and Sasha has doubts about her relationship, on the CBS original series WATSON, Sunday, March 16 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and streaming on Paramount+ (live and

In some disappointing news for the series, the show is on the move. As mentioned, it will air on Sundays, but it will no longer follow Tracker. It’s not going to be pushed to 10 p.m. ET/PT, following the new Yellowstone spinoff series, Y: Marshals, which will follow Tracker.

This is scary news for the series. That late timeslot on Sundays doesn’t perform well. It’s become the death slot for a lot of TV shows over the years, including Madam Secretary, NCIS: New Orleans, and recently The Equalizer. The Sherlock Holmes-inspired series already struggled to gain the linear ratings as hoped, leading to it not getting a renewal along with other top CBS shows, so now I worry that we won’t end up getting a third season. People need to tune in live!

Watson is available to stream on Paramount+ to catch up before the finale on Sunday, May 11.
