NBC brought a number of major cancellations in May 2025, with Night Court being one of them. However, there was a little bit of hope, as the series quickly worked on finding a new home following the bad news.
It’s been a little more than a month since the cancellation, and there is more bad news to share. The search for a new home has come to an end, according to Variety.
Rather than leaving everyone hanging in limbo, Melissa Rauch took to social media to share the bad news. She wanted to make sure everyone was aware, allowing them to grieve the end as the cast and crew have had to do as well.
Rauch was not just the star of The Night Court revival, but also the executive producer. It was because of her that the series really got off the ground, bringing a plan that would pay homage to the original series and keep that style of comedy with a live audience alive for a little longer. After all, live audience comedies like this are not as popular anymore.
The end of Night Court did not happen without a fight. Rauch shared that she and those behind the show did everything they could to find it a new home. In an Instagram post, she made it clear that it could have been part of her love for The Goonies or just denial about the end of the show, but she wasn’t ready to let it just close off.
"I have held off on posting anything about Night Court not continuing until I knew we did everything in our power to find another home for it. Perhaps it was being raised on The Goonies 'Never Say Die' motto or straight up denial that I didn’t want this incredibly special experience to come to an end. That said, after turning over all the stones there were to be turned over, we’ve learned that it is officially the hour to say 'farewell.' Or at least 'Until next time.'"
This series was something extra special to the former Big Bang Theory actress. She watched Night Court growing up, and she likely never thought she would end up stepping on that exact same set. Yes, the majority of the sets in the revival came from the original series, adding a layer of authenticity and connection.
You never know; it was 30 years between the original series and the revival. Maybe in another 30 years, another creator will be able to find a way to bring it back. What we do know is that the revival managed to capture the hearts of original and new fans, and it’s just a shame that the linear ratings saw double-digit dips year upon year, as three seasons wasn’t long enough to tell this story.
Night Court is available to stream on Peacock.
