A friendship is tested on Brilliant Minds season 2 episode 12. Meanwhile, Wolf get answers about the woman in Noah’s apartment, and Carol figures out a secret.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Brilliant Minds season 2 episode 12
We’re now two interns down on the series, and that puts more of a highlight on Dana and Ericka’s friendship. There’s a risk of it being tested when the two end up going up for the same grant at the hospital. Meanwhile, there is a lot more going on between Wolf and Charlie and Wolf and Josh.

A cowboy with a health problem on Brilliant Minds season 2 episode 12
Throughout the episode, we get a story focused on a cowboy, who is struggling with various health problems that can’t be explained. Sometimes, he goes hypothermic all of a sudden, and other times, he sees bugs under his arms a little like the scarab beetle in The Mummy. It’s something that Wolf and the others struggle to get to the bottom of.
This isn’t psychological. There is something neurological going on, but all the tests are coming back clean. It’s only when there’s a mention of alcohol due to them drinking the hand sanitizer that it all comes up. Benson comes from a family that drinks heavily, and the term “alcoholic” doesn’t exist for them. However, he knows that he has a problem, and he has tried to stop time and time again, but nothing has worked.
Wolf realizes that there is a treatment called deep brain stimulation that could help for this. There are no guarantees, but Wolf wants to try it. Charlie is against it, and so is Josh. It even leads to an argument between Wolf and Josh, bringing up the fact that Josh wanted to use the exact same thing on a patient with Tourette’s.

Carol is the one who finds a way around the situation, sharing that there’s a former Bronx General surgeon, Dr. Beau Pedrosa, who takes a more humanitarian approach. Why didn’t Josh mention him? Likely because he is Josh’s new boyfriend, but Wolf is able to put his personal feelings to one side to get his patient the help that’s needed, and Beau is more than willing to help.
Sadly for Benson, he has to do this alone. He wants his girlfriend, Grace Anne, to join him, noting that she also has a drinking problem, but Grace Anne isn’t ready for that. In the end, she decides to head back on the road with the rodeo rather than being there for the man she claims to love.
At the end of Brilliant Minds season 2 episode 12, Beau goes to Josh’s office, as Josh is late for a dinner date. Josh lies about how “little” he knows Wolf, making it clear that there are feelings, and this whole situation is going to blow up very soon.

Carol helps a ‘crazy’ cat lady
We’ve all heard the term “crazy cat lady,” and it seems like that is what Carol has with Betsie, who comes to Carol to show off her cat. She’s about to be evicted because of the noise the cat makes, so she needs Carol to sign off on DiAngelo being her emotional support animal.
Things take a turn, though, as it turns out that Betsie has more than just one cat at her apartment. It’s become a health hazard, leading to her being arrested when she kicked off about people trying to take the cats away.
Silva is the one who realizes that there could be something behind the “crazy” part of cat lady, and it’s likely a parasite called toxoplasma gondii. This is the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis, which can be dangerous and is a parasite that many cat owners are exposed to. Sure enough, Betsie has been exposed, but it’s not an infection right now. Carol does want Betsie to find a way to deal with her many strays, as it’s becoming a health concern.
By the end of the episode, Betsie finds homes for all the strays except for DiAngelo. This leads to Carol noting that Betsie has found a community of cat lovers, which should help. On top of that, she signs off on DiAngelo being an emotional support animal, helping to ensure Betsie keeps both her cats and her apartment.

Ericka and Dana go head-to-head for a grant on Brilliant Minds season 2 episode 12
Meanwhile, Ericka and Dana run the risk of ruining their friendship, as the two end up going head-to-head for a mental health grant at the hospital. Of course, Ericka has pushed herself to do it, but Charlie was the one to encourage Dana to apply, even giving her a recommendation. He wants Dana to push for this, putting her career first. It won’t hurt Ericka to have some competition.
The two have different approaches in their interviews, with Ericka focuses on the stats and Dana going for the emotional focus, which is something Charlie recommends that she does. Sure enough, it works, and Dana is the one to get the grant.
The best thing is that it doesn’t ruin the friendship. Ericka is happy for Dana, and she even shares that she wanted to talk to the board about her bio mom, who is something she now keeps thinking about. Dana just had the guts to go the emotional route, and she’s proud of her friend for doing that.
However, the emotional route opens something for Carol. She realizes that Dana was the one to report her. While Josh can’t confirm it, he also doesn’t deny it. Carol is understandably frustrated at the entire situation, but she’s not likely to retaliate in any way. After all, she was on the panel for the grant that supported Dana. It’s about time Carol figured it out, though.

Who is the woman in Noah’s apartment?
Brilliant Minds season 2 episode 12 initially opens with a small reveal that Sofia is a woman who lives in the apartment upstairs. She comes to water Noah’s plants when he’s away, and that’s all we get to know.
It’s later on that she reveals that she was a patient of Noah’s, getting free treatment in return to help Noah write his life story. Now it makes sense why Sofia knows so much about Wolf. With Noah being away right now, Wolf offers to continue the treatment, as it seems like Sofia has sleep paralysis and seizures. In return, he wants to know more about his father in the years that he believed his father was dead.
It’s a deal.
As for another deal, Charlie will continue to work at the hospital. He initially wanted to be fired after the big reveal, but now he wants to prove that he is a great doctor and that his approach works. So, he has a goal of running the department one day. Charlie has made a deal with himself to do that, and Wolf isn’t going to fire Charlie.
Brilliant Minds airs on Mondays at 10/9c on NBC.
