After much speculation on whether it's actually going to happen, HBO Max has officially given The Big Bang Theory spinoff series, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, the green light, TVLine reports. That means the show is now picked up, and the cast and crew can start to film the episodes for the full season order it's now received.

Before this official announcement, it was first shared that the Chuck Lorre production was potentially going to happen more than two years ago. Since then, there have been scarce updates including who the main cast would be, those actors meeting to read the pilot episode, and the title of the series was revealed. As of now, there's no filming start date, release date, or episode count that have been shared. Though Lorre did previously say that they've written 10 episode scripts.

But again, with all of these updates it still wasn't confirmed that TBBT spinoff would be happening. That is until now. And, wow. The synopsis has been revealed for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, and it's not at all what we expected it to be. It's out of this universe, pun intended. Check out the description from TVLine below:

"Comic book store owner Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman) is tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally bringing about a multiverse Armageddon. Stuart is aided in this quest by his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), geologist friend Bert (Brian Posehn), and quantum physicist/all-around pain in the ass Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie). Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of characters we’ve come to know and love from The Big Bang Theory. As the title implies, things don’t go well."

The OG guys - Sheldon, Lenoard, Howard, and Raj - constantly argued together about their favorite comic books, sci-fi movies and shows, and everything else in between. They made for some hilarious conflicts, and it's something all four of them were passionate about. Obviosuly. It's the nerds in them!

So taking that element while thrusting us into this sci-fi mythological story in the single-camera comedy is quite the intriguing plot line to go with. Plus, expect to see a lot of CGI use. I'll be honest. This is completely not what I was expecting as a fan of The Big Bang Theory, which aired on CBS, and franchise in general. I was not too excited about this spinoff, though I'll hand it to the creatives. They've piqued my interest.

The synopsis also suggests that at least a cameo or some sort of appearance could happen with Jim Parsons (Sheldon) and Johnny Galecki (Leonard) possibly reprising their roles. Parsons, as well as Penny actress Kaley Cuoco and Amy actress Mayim Bialik, have all expressed interest in coming back in some form. Plus with Melissa Rauch's unfortunate cancellation of her NBC series Night Court, perhaps now her schedule is more free to come on board as well.

The description does tease that along the way, the new main four will meet altern-universe versions of characters we know from the flagship series. That has to mean some sort of cameo from the OGs. Right!? Stuart Fails to Save the Universe joins prequels Young Sheldon and Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage in expanding TBBT world.
