Will Trent
Will Trent was renewed for a fourth season in April 2025, and that new installment is confirmed to start airing on ABC early next year. That said, you might want to spend some of your summer rewatching all three previous seasons just to refresh your memory before season 4 comes out. If not all three seasons, then at least the most recent one, since the story will continue from that point.
Based on Karin Slaughter's book series of the same name, the police procedural revolves around Will Trent, an exceptionally skilled yet conflicted GBI special agent who relies on his sharp intuition and unwavering determination to crack complex cases. Ramón Rodríguez stars as the main character, Will Trent. Erika Christensen, Iantha Richardson, Jake McLaughlin, Sonja Sohn, Gina Rodriguez, and others are also in the cast.
Grey's Anatomy
Grey's Anatomy recently wrapped up its twenty-first season on ABC, and a twenty-second season has already been confirmed to premiere this fall. Sure, you could simply rewatch the most recent installment to get ready for season 22. But where’s the fun in that? Why not also dive into some of the earlier seasons and relive the moments that made the show a beloved classic? That sounds like a solid plan to me!
Shonda Rhimes created this long-running medical drama that's set in the fictional Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle. It follows a group of dedicated surgeons and medical staff as they tackle challenging cases and try their best to provide the best care to their patients. Some of the original cast includes Ellen Pompeo, Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, and many others.
Shifting Gears
Now, let's switch gears to something more on the comedy side. Shifting Gears is one of ABC's newest shows, and it's the perfect series to brighten up your summer days. See what I did there? The thing about comedy sitcoms is that you can watch them over and over, and they still manage to bring a smile to your face every single time. That's exactly what Shifting Gears can do for you this summer.
There's only one season so far, with a 10-episode second season set to premiere on ABC this fall. You can expect new episodes to start airing on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT. But in the meantime, you should rewatch the first season to relive all the hilarious moments before season 2 kicks off.
Shifting Gears stars Tim Allen as Matt Parker, a grumpy widower and owner of an auto restoration shop whose quiet and simple life is turned upside down when his estranged daughter, Riley (played by Kat Dennings), moves in with her two kids.
Abbott Elementary
We're not done yet with recommending ABC comedies to watch this summer. In the midst of rewatching Shifting Gears, you should also make time for Abbott Elementary. Like Shifting Gears, this workplace comedy will return with a new season in the fall. There are four seasons in total so far, so there's a lot to binge and enjoy. Abbott Elementary stars Quinta Brunson as Janine Teagues, an enthusiastic and endlessly optimistic second-grade teacher at a struggling public school in Philadelphia. Despite the numerous challenges she faces at the school, including a lack of funding and limited resources, she remains committed to making a difference in her students' lives.
