Even though Abbott Elementary has only aired for four seasons to date, the show has been so impactful that it feels like it has been around for much longer. For example, it could easily be argued that the ABC show saved the mockumentary TV format and that it made sitcoms feel much more relevant than they had been in years. There are many reasons why Abbott Elementary mattered that much, and one of its most obvious is that it features truly beloved characters.
Due to how much fans love the show's characters, there is a lot of excitement about Abbott Elementary's season 5 return. After all, fans are very interested in what the show's upcoming storylines will be like, including one confirmed plot line about a main character questioning their role at the school. Matthew Law is returning to Abbott Elementary as O'Shon during season 5
On August 28, 2025, the cast of Abbott Elementary filmed an episode of the fantastic show in Citizens Bank Park during a Thursday night Philadelphia Phillies game. Filming in the stadium will certainly ensure that the episode those scenes will be a part of will be memorable. However, for the majority of the show's fans, the most exciting part of that situation likely has nothing to do with that filming location.
After the episode was filmed, The Hollywood Reporter published an article about the memorable television shoot. As a part of that piece, the outlet published a photo of the series' cast with the Philadelphia Phillies mascot, The Phillie Phanatic. As fun as it was to see Abbott Elementary's cast with the big green character, the fact that Matthew Law could be seen in the cast photo is what makes me overjoyed.
Matthew portrayed the recurring character, O'Shon, in eight episodes from season 4 of Abbott Elementary. As the show's fans will already know, O'Shon is the IT rep for the district that the show's titular school falls in. After being introduced to the show because of his job, O'Shon wound up becoming Ava Coleman's romantic interest after he asked her out.
Whether Abbott Elementary ends with season 5 or not, there is no doubt that many fans will be excited about seeing more of O'Shon. In July 2025, a user on the r/AbbottElementary subreddit asked the sitcom's other fans what they want O'Shon's role on the show to be in the future. That post got many fun responses, but the top-most-upvoted idea is something I need to see. "I can't wait for when he will want to do a double date with Gregory and Janine."
