Our favorite sitcom Abbott Elementary is heading into a new school year with the premiere of season 5 this fall 2025 on ABC! We absolutely can't wait to see what else is in store for the teachers and staff, and we know there's more hilarious moments for us to look forward to. A couple of weeks ago, lead actress and creator of the sitcom Quinta Brunson shared some comments that got us fans a little nervous, though. Now however, the head of Disney programming is clearing things up.

In an interview with Deadline, Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich was asked about the star's recent comments hinting that Abbott Elementary season 5 could possibly be the final season. Brunson had mentioned how some of the cast members, including possibly herself, want to pursue other projects, which is completely understandable of course.

Though one thing holding them back at times is the fact that they're so busy with the series' schedule, which doesn't leave much room to do other movies and shows. This seemed to hint that perhaps after a great run, Abbott will be coming to and end sooner than we think and that Brunson was ready to do so.

However thankfully, Erwich is clearing the air about those rumors. He told the news outlet that those comments that Quinta made "were misconstrued" and that ABC is "absolutely" looking to keep the comedy going for multiple seasons, still. He continued on to say that "she remains incredibly dedicated to the show. And I think you can tell that from just watching the episodes."

Phew, what a relief! Even though the sitcom has been on for what is about to be five seasons, which is definitely no easy milestone to reach in the world of television, I can't imagine having to say goodbye to the hilarious school-centric comedy any time soon. I know that unfortunate day will come at some point, though I really do feel like the show is still at its prime.

There's a lot of continued growth and storylines our favorite characters can still go through. The series doesn't feel repetitive or like it's run out of material to work with at all. It's still such a success, and I truly do hope that what Erwich said is true in that Abbott Elementary has many more seasons to come!

No release date has been set yet, but Abbott Elementary season 5 premieres sometime in fall 2025 on ABC. You can also stream episodes the next day on Hulu.
