It's official! Abbott Elementary season 5 finally has a set release date, and it's slightly earlier than when we got the fan-favorite ABC comedy last year. Basically ever since the show got a renewal from the network back in January 2025, we knew it was going to be a part of the fall schedule. Though now it's great to have the exact date to look forward to.
Get ready to start off the month of October this year with the hit series because Abbott Elementary season 5 premeires Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025 at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Of course as always, episodes will stream the next day, Thursdays, on Hulu as well.
Other than the first season, the sitcom has aired on Wednesday nights the past few years. So this time will be no different. However since the show's debut, there's been different time slots, usually at 9 p.m. ET. Though a half an hour really isn't a big deal. It's 30 minutes earlier, so I'll take it!
The fall Wednesday night lineup begins with Shifting Gears season 2, followed by Abbott Elementary. Finally, the night closes out with The Golden Bachelor season 2 at 9 p.m. ET as the dating reality series moves to its regular time slot on Wednesday nights. The second season is set to debut with a two-hour premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET first.
The season 5 release date is honestly one we were expecting. Though it is great that the comedy is returning a week earlier than when it debuted last year. The fourth season was a week later on Oct. 9, 2024. So this time around we get Abbott just a little bit earlier. Again, not complaining at all.
Details about what we can expect in the new school year are still under wraps. Though there are a few plot details we hope to see. I'd love to learn more about Jacob and his personal life, as well as have a bit more focus on him. Plus, I think it's definitely time for Mr. Gregory Eddie to find himself a principal job. He's more than ready for it!
There's also the continued growth of two fan-favorite couples - Janine and Gregory, as well as Ava and O'Shon. These romances are one of our favorite parts of the series, and I'm definitely looking forward to getting more sweet moments from them both.
Also recently, creator and lead actress Quinta Brunson made some comments that seemed to hint that perhaps the fifth season could be the final one. However Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich shared that those comments were "misconstrued" and that ABC is hoping for multiple seasons still to come. Hopefully that's true and everyone will be on board!
