Wow. The last few episodes of the fourth season of Abbott Elementary were certainly dramatic! The district found out the school had been bribing the people at the golf course, Ava got fired as a result, and then everyone rallied together to get her job back. Which they did. It was certainly eventful, though no less entertaining. That's why we absolutely can't wait for season 5, and we're getting closer and closer to it.
In speaking with Screen Rant, Jacob Hill actor Chris Perfetti shared an update on when the cast and crew are set to get back to set to start rehearsing and eventually get the cameras rolling. According to the actor, production for Abbott Elementary season 5 begins next month in July 2025. That is so soon!
Perfetti did say that they're about to start the table reads, so they're not quite at the filming stage just yet. Though that will follow soon after, so it shouldn't be too long now. This is also great news because it means everything is on track for the fall 2025 premiere date, and there are no delays so far.
The ABC comedy was renewed all the way back in January 2025, so we've known for quite a while that we'd be returning for a new school year. You can also expect another long season of 22 episodes, which is very exciting! I will always take more Abbott.
The actor also mentioned seeing creator and star Quinta Brunson recently, even though production hasn't started just yet, and "she's a brilliant actor, but she doesn't hide things super well, and I can tell that she's happy about what they've done so far for season 5." Ooh, if the Janine actress is excited, then that definitely means good things are coming! With her at the helm of all of this, the series has been in good hands from the start. There's no doubt about that.
This wasn't a major cliffhanger per se, though it is obvious that Gregory enjoyed being principal in Ava's absence. And he was really good at it too! So I do feel like he may want to explore opportunities for that position outside of Abbott, which could be an interesting conflict of sorts between Gregory and Janine who are in a good place right now.
It would be very different for them not to see each other at work everyday now that they're in a stable relationship. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. As we do wait, be sure not to miss the next Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode when season 17 of the FX series premieres on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. You can also stream it the next day on Hulu.
