7 broadcast TV shows to watch this week, Oct. 13–19 (and 3 to skip)

Fall TV is officially back in business.

Another week is here, and this is a big one. There are now more and more shows back, with CBS Premiere Week in full swing, so it can make it harder to choose the broadcast shows you should watch and skip.

It’s going to get a lot harder soon. This week, it’s mostly about the premieres that are happening, because you know you need to get into a show from the beginning. After that, we’ll have to pick and choose, and that makes the streaming platforms more and more important. After all, when I say skip, I just mean to watch the next day on streaming platforms.

Takeover
“Takeover” – FBI. Pictured: Jeremy Sisto as Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine. Photo: Bennett Raglin/CBS ©2025 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

What to watch: FBI

The FBI season 8 premiere is set to be a big one. It picks up days after the FBI season 7 finale, with Jubal in a new command position. What does this mean about Isobel? Well, that’s been the big question all summer hiatus, and we need to tune in to find out.

At the same time, there’s a new agent coming onto the team, and that means someone is set to leave. You’ll want to tune in for exit storylines, introductions and more. Keep in mind that the series is moving to a new night for the first time ever.

FBI season 8 premieres on Monday at 9/8c on CBS.

What to skip: Dancing with the Stars

To be able to watch FBI live, you’ll need to skip the two-hour reality shows. Dancing with the Stars is easy to skip, as it airs on Hulu at the same time. The benefit of this is that you can watch it as soon as other Monday night shows are over, rather than waiting for it the following day.

There are 10 couples left fighting for the Mirror Ball trophy. This night is a big one for the contestants as it’s Dedication Night, so they’re dancing with someone special on their minds.

Dancing with the Stars will stream on Hulu.

Prodigal Son (Part II)

What to watch: NCIS

Tuesday nights are turning into NCIS Nights, starting with new episodes of the flagship series. Yes, the flagship is still going strong, and we could see the move back to Tuesdays being a huge positive for it. After that, we’ll get NCIS: Origins and then NCIS: Sydney.

As for the NCIS season 23 premiere, it picks up shortly after the season 22 finale. Parker wants to get answers about his father’s murder, and he will even run the risk of getting himself locked up to do it. This is a man with no qualms about breaking the law to get justice if he needs to.

NCIS airs on Tuesday at 8/7c on CBS.

What to skip: 911: Nashville

Did you check out the 911: Nashville series premiere last week, as we suggested? If you did, there’s absolutely no need to watch the rerun of it during the week. Yes, we do mean the rerun, although, we’d also say that the second episode could be worth skipping as Matlock is back on Thursdays on CBS!

Back to the episode to skip. ABC wants to push its new Thursday drama, and that means airing a rerun of the series premiere. It was certainly a soapy mess, and some of the characters are already proving to be annoying, but there is something that’s going to keep us tuning in. Via streaming, of course!

911: Nashville is available to stream on Hulu.

The Devil Went Down to Woodstone

What to watch: Ghosts

Back to CBS premiere week, and Thursdays are going to be big. Ghosts is back with its fifth season, and there’s a lot to address from season 4. It seems there’s a lot more than previous seasons have given us.

To start, Sam and the ghosts need to save Jay’s soul from the pact he made with Elias Woodstone. Meanwhile, Pete and Alberta have a lot to discuss, but I have to question whether Carol is going to cause a problem. Then there’s Sass, who will need to deal with the fact that his girlfriend can travel, and they will end up in a long-distance relationship.

Ghosts airs on Thursday at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.

Grey's Anatomy season 22
GREY’S ANATOMY - “Only the Strong Survive” - After the catastrophic hospital explosion, Grey Sloan’s staff scrambles to save not only their patients’ lives but also their own. Confronted with impossible surgical decisions and emotional turmoil, they fight to preserve life amid devastation. THURSDAY, OCT. 9 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. (Disney/Anne Marie Fox) ANTHONY HILL

What to watch: Grey’s Anatomy

When it comes to shows that you need to catch a new episode of, it’s got to be Grey’s Anatomy. This episode will see the return of a former series regular, but for the Maggie haters out there, don’t worry, she’s not back for good! She’s back to help Amelia, who is going to struggle with her loss.

The hospital explosion led to the death of Monica Beltran, and Amelia doesn’t know how to deal with that. On top of that, the entire staff will need to figure out what to do as the OR floor is rebuilt. There’s a lot of change to come.

Grey’s Anatomy airs on Thursday at 10/9c on ABC.

What to skip: Law & Order: Organized Crime

Since you’re watching Grey’s Anatomy live, you can’t watch Law & Order: Organized Crime live. And there’s no need to watch this live any of the weeks. After all, you can watch the entire fifth season on Peacock already.

Yes, this series aired on Peacock back in the spring, after initially airing four seasons on NBC. So, you can see how the story ends. However, fair warning, the series hasn’t yet been renewed for a sixth season, and NBCUniversal could be looking at how the NBC airing goes to see if it’s worth renewing it. My opinion is that if it needs the NBC live ratings, then it probably shouldn’t have moved to Peacock in the first place.

Goodbye for Now

What to watch: Fire Country

Friday nights are all about the CBS dramas, and that’s finally the case this week. Things kick off with the Fire Country season 4 premiere, and this is a must-watch. The premiere will pick up with the outcome of the shocking season 3 cliffhanger.

Well, the trailer has given that away. Sadly, Vince isn’t making it out alive, and this will change everything on the show. Bode will need to deal with his grief while still focusing on honoring his legacy.

Fire Country will air on Friday at 8/7c on CBS. Keep in mind that it will move to 9/8c the following week.

Pilot
"Pilot" - Sheriff Country. Pictured: Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox. Photo: Christos Kalohoridis/CBS ©2025 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

What to watch: Sheriff Country

If you love Fire Country, then you’ll need to check out the spinoff series. We’ve already met Mickey Fox, but now we get to see her in her element. She’s the new sheriff, and she has a town to protect.

That’s not all. She’s also dealing with her estranged father moving in with her, and her daughter coming back from rehab. That’s a lot to take on in her personal life, and we have to question if something will crack.

Sheriff Country airs on Friday at 9/8c on CBS. It will move to 8/7c the following week.

The Process
“The Process” – TRACKER. Pictured: Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw and Jensen Ackles as Russell Shaw. Photo: Sergei Bachlakov/CBS ©2025 CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

What to watch: Tracker

Finally, we land on Sunday, and this isn’t a day of rest. Instead of tuning straight into Sunday Night Football, turn to CBS instead. The Tracker season 3 premiere is here, and it promises to be a big one for Jensen Ackles fans. He’s back as Russell Shaw, and he’s about to get caught up on everything Colter has learned.

The third season itself will need to answer a few questions about Mary, Otto, and Ashton. However, don’t expect any of that to be solved in the two-part premiere, which airs over two weeks.

Tracker airs on Sunday at 8/7c on CBS.
