When Will Trent season 3 came to a close, the fates of two major characters were left up in the air following a shocking episode that has left fans talking all summer long.
As season 3 drew to a close, Amanda and Angie faced off in a gunfight with members of Founders Front who had taken over the precinct. During the showdown, Amanda was shot in the sternum and rushed to the hospital. While she survived the gunshot, the doctors made it clear to Will, and the audience, that Amanda was not out of the woods and that the next 48 hours would be critical for her recovery.
Because worrying about whether Amanda would live or die wasn’t enough stress, the writers threw a second curveball our way as the episode drew to an end when Ormewood collapsed on the kitchen floor of his apartment. After waiting to get into the VA hospital for a CT to check the severity of the brain tumor previously discovered earlier in the episode, Ormewood collapsed and began seizing and things were not looking good for him as Faith raced to his side and frantically called 911 while trying to tend to her friend and roommate.
The finale left fans worried that Ormewood and/or Amanda could be in grave danger; however, it seems our concerns might have been for nothing.

Amanda and Ormewood are both coming back for Will Trent season 4
While we don’t yet know what’s to come for Amanda and Ormewood in season 4, it seems that both characters will survive their brushes with death in the season 3 finale!
In a video shared by ABC celebrating the start of production on season 4, Sonja Sohn and Jake McLaughlin, who respectively play Amanda and Ormewood, were both seen on set filming for the season. This seems to suggest Amanda will pull through and recovers from her gunshot injury, and that Ormewood’s seizure was not a fatal one.
Sohn was spotted quickly by fans, leaning on one of the desks in the bullpen at the precinct, relaxing between takes as Kevin Daniels (Wilks), Erika Christensen (Polaski), and Cora Lu Tran (Nico) excitedly celebrate being back for season 4. Meanwhile, McLaughlin enthusiastically declares, “We’re back for season 4,” while sitting behind his character’s desk alongside Daniels
Given how critical both characters are to the ensemble, it’s a relief to know that we won’t be saying goodbye to Amanda or Ormewood and that both characters are returning for season 4! Sure, there are likely to be repercussions from their season 3 finale moments, and those moments will surely factor into their character arcs in season 4, but fans can rest assured in knowing Sohn and McLaughlin are coming back next season!
Will Trent returns for its fourth season in early 2026.
