At long last, a recurring guest actor on Will Trent has been upped to series regular. It means a lot more of a fan-favorite, who has an important role in Angie’s life.
Yes, Kevin Daniels has been upped to series regular for Will Trent season 4, according to Deadline. This means a lot more of Detective Wilks is coming, and we’re looking at what this could mean for others in the series.

Detective Wilks is Angie’s sober sponsor in Will Trent
Wilks already has an important role in the series, and not just as a detective for the Atlanta PD. He is Angie’s AA sponsor, which means he knows exactly how Angie is feeling when she wants to turn back to drugs to cope with her life. As a sponsor, he has been through it as well. Now he’s ready to support others through their journey to sobriety.
That doesn’t mean life is perfect for him, but it always seems like he’s completely put together. We’ve always wondered what Wilks’ life is like on the outside, but the show has never really delved into it. Upping Daniels to series regular means that he’ll be in more episodes, offering more of a look into his personal life.
With Angie making the decision to keep her baby, she may turn to Wilks even more for help. There’s more than just her to fight for when it comes to sobriety now, and that further opens the door for him to be involved more.

What does Wilks’ presence mean for Ormewood?
At the end of Will Trent season 3, two lives were left on the line. Amanda was left in a hospital bed recovering from being shot, and Ormewood collapsed in front of Nico, suffering from his brain tumor. Wilks’ storyline is likely more connected to Ormewood rather than Amanda, considering the two are in the Atlanta PD.
Is it possible that Wilks is being in the show more because Ormewood isn’t going to make it? It would make sense to find Angie a permanent partner, and with her suffering the loss of Ormewood, Wilks may want to step into that position so that he can keep an eye on her at the same time.
Of course, Ormewood could survive, but he may be forced out of the police force because of his tumor. This still opens the position of a replacement partner for Angie, and putting Wilks into that role makes the most sense.
All we know is we’re ready for more Wilks in Will Trent. This promotion is something we’ve wanted to see for some time.
Will Trent season 4 will premiere on ABC in 2026.
