Will Trent stars hint SPOILER isn't going to die in season 4 after all

By the end of Will Trent season 3, it seemed like two characters might be on the chopping block headed into season 4. Georgia Bureau of Investigation Deputy Director Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn) took a bullet while trying to foil a domestic terrorist group's deadly plans, while Detective Michael Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) seemed to succumb to his brain tumor, leaving him seizing on the floor of his kitchen. But according to one of the show's main cast members, things might not be as dire as they initially seemed.

During the recent Disney Upfront in New York, TVLine caught up with actress Iantha Richardson, who plays Agent Faith Mitchell. Faith is the one who calls for help when Ormewood collapses in his kitchen.

According to the outlet, Richardson seemed confident that Ormewood would make a full recovery, though she's less sure about Amanda's fate.

“That would break her. If anything were to happen to her — which, I highly doubt anything would — but when she realizes what has happened to Amanda, that is going to be something that is going to be a pivotal moment in Faith’s life, for sure.”

Admittedly, that quote makes me nervous for Amanda. I can see how her death might open the door for a compelling Faith storyline, especially given the complicated nature of their relationship. But, Richardson also expresses doubt that "anything would" actually happen to Amanda, so that's a positive sign.

Season 3's finale was traumatic enough for fans, but it didn't help matters when co-showrunners Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomson told TVLine that we were right to be "concerned for those characters," suggesting that one, or both, could die. Thankfully, Richardson's recent comments make it seem likely that Ormewood, at least, will recover.

The last time we saw Amanda, she appeared to be in the better situation as she came through surgery but the surgeon then warned that her health is still touch and go and the following 48 hours would be "critical" to her making a full recovery.

To further assuage fan fears, TVLine also spoke with Ormewood's actor McLaughlin, and the outlet notes that he "didn't seem particularly worried about Ormewood's fate, either."

Unfortunately, we're not going to know who lives or dies until 2026 at the earliest (unless something gets leaked or spoiled before then). ABC has opted not to bring Will Trent back for season 4 until next year, where it's likely to air for another uninterrupted (apart from unavoidable delays or preempted content) 18 weeks alongside The Rookie.

Disney TV's Craig Erwich previously said that they believe the "momentum" garnered by Will Trent's consistent run is what helped it grow in the ratings. The Rookie was renewed for its eighth season and the two shows make a good pairing. Erwich expressed excitement for their Tuesday night schedule, calling it a "must-see destination night."
