We're about to get into spoiler territory when it comes to Doc season 1, so you might want to exit this article if you haven’t watched it yet and don’t want any plot details revealed.

Doc might currently be airing its second season on Fox, but there are some viewers who are a little bit behind on the medical drama. After the first season was added to Netflix in late September 2025, many new viewers have been binge-watching the series and catching up on all the drama.

With its addition to Netflix, we're starting to see many old questions resurfacing. One of those questions centers around a character named Danny. People want to know what happened to this Danny character. Well, we're about to dive into all the details right now.

Doc revolves around Dr. Amy Larsen, a talented physician who after getting into a bad car accident, experiences a traumatic brain injury that erases the last eight years of her memory. Upon regaining consciousness, Amy finds herself having to rebuild her life from the ground up. This includes reconnecting with colleagues and patients she no longer remembers, as well as navigating the challenges of her demanding medical career.

However, Amy quickly comes to realize that she wasn't exactly the kindest person before her accident. This makes it difficult for her to rebuild relationships. Also, she eventually discovers that she and her ex-husband, Michael, are no longer together. As the season goes on, we find out the main reason they aren’t together, and it concerns the Danny character.

How did the Danny storyline unfold in Doc season 1?

Danny was the young son of Amy and Michael. We don't get to see him much in season 1 besides in flashbacks because he's dead. This is something we learn earlier in the season. At first, Michael didn't want to reveal the details of Danny's death to Amy, who is struggling with memory loss. However, he eventually opens up to her in the fourth episode.

We learn the details of Danny's death through a flashback to the day he passed away. Danny had a heart condition (arrhythmia) that tragically led to his death on a school trip. Amy was initially supposed to chaperone the trip, but circumstances kept her from going. Michael ended up accompanying Danny instead. During the outing, Danny appeared ill as he got off the bus, yet Michael, aware of his son’s heart condition, failed to check his pulse. Danny ends up passing out in the museum, and Michael tries everything to revive him. But despite his desperate efforts, Danny doesn't make it.

Following his death, Amy became consumed by grief and anger and directed much of the blame toward Michael. This is what led to the downfall of their relationship. It also shaped Amy's overall behavior. Danny's death caused her to become distant, guarded, and sometimes cold toward colleagues and patients.

Below, we included the scene from season 1 in which Michael finally tells Amy what happened to Danny.

Doc season 1 is available to stream on Netflix. You can catch new episodes of Doc season 2 every Tuesday night on Fox.
