The Simpsons will wrap up season 37 earlier, and for this longtime fan, the news is disappointing. GeekSided previously reported that the long-running FOX animated series will have its seasons cut to fewer episodes, but in return, Disney plans to expand the franchise with Disney+ content (and a new movie!). So, I guess it breaks even, as we won't be short on new material.
The finale date is Sunday, February 15, 2026. Usually, the finale comes around in May, so it's a bit of a shocker that it's scheduled three months ahead. If you've been keeping track of the episode count, season 37 ends with 15, instead of the usual 22, not counting the Disney+ exclusive stuff.
To fill you in, season 37 started off strong, with its premiere being a sweet nod to the 1990s. Its latest episode, "Bart 'N' Frink" (November 9), explored the hidden genius that Bart inhibits, only to be encouraged by Springfield's scientist, Professor John Frink. The piece also canvassed Bart and Frink's developing friendship, which is something I'd love to see more of, as The Simpsons harbor several characters who expand beyond those who reside at 742 Evergreen Terrace. Revealing the supporting characters' backgrounds reveals a much richer, rapidly growing Springfield.
Season 37 will also mark a significant milestone for the series in 2026: the 800th episode! Not bad for a family who have been giving fans a bellyful of laughs since 1987 and will keep rolling them until the end of time. That itself is something worth celebrating, because no television show has ever crossed this infinite line.
As to why the season is coming to an end early in the new year, there is an understandable reason for this. The reason behind this, other than having fewer episodes on FOX and Disney reeling more streamer exclusive content, is to make space for the shows premiering during the 2026 midseason lineup.
Fans shouldn't allow themselves to linger with fewer episodes. The Simpsons are not leaving us in the next five years, and maybe beyond, because it's such a beloved favorite in the pop culture realm. Whether you enjoy the old classics from the 1990s or the latest material, the show will delight for years to come.
The Simpsons season 37 airs Sundays on FOX, with next-day streaming on Hulu. Fans can also enjoy past episodes of the show on both Hulu and Disney+.
