Now that the new season of Ginny and Georgia is out, fans aren't wasting any time binge-watching all 10 episodes on Netflix. As expected from the hit teen series, there's more drama than ever this season. The Miller family's world is turned upside down after Georgia's arrest, and Georgia is left to deal with some serious challenges. One such problem is her kids' fathers trying to fight her for custody.

That's where the character Gil Timmins comes in. Gil is Georgia's ex and Austin's dad, and he's introduced in the show's second season when he comes into town and shakes things up for Georgia. He comes to Wellsbury seemingly to reconnect with Austin, but he quickly begins to show his true colors. He was abusive towards Georgia when they were younger, and he's still abusive towards her now.

At the end of season 2, Paul manages to scare him away by threatening to have him sent back to prison if he continues to bother Georgia and her kids. But in Ginny and Georgia season 3, Gil returns after learning of Georgia's arrest. He sees her arrest as his opportunity to get primary custody of Austin, hoping to use her legal troubles to his advantage.

Now, when you look at Gil, you might think you know the actor who portrays him. No, it's not The Rookie star Shawn Ashmore. Here's the funny thing. It's not Shawn at all. The striking resemblance is no coincidence, though, and it’s easy to see why fans get confused.

In fact, the actor is Shawn’s real-life identical twin brother, Aaron Ashmore. Both brothers have made names for themselves in Hollywood, carving out successful careers with diverse roles in television and film. While Shawn is known for his work on shows like The Rookie, The Following and The Boys, Aaron has built his own impressive resume with roles in series such as Warehouse 13, Killjoys, Locke & Key, SkyMed and now Ginny and Georgia.

You’ve probably heard of twins swapping roles on shows, but that’s not what’s happening with the Ashmore brothers in Ginny and Georgia. Aaron has been the one portraying Gil ever since the character was introduced, and it looks like we'll be seeing more of him in Ginny and Georgia season 4, based on how the third season ended.

Now, if you want to see Shawn, you'll just have to wait until The Rookie returns with its eighth season on ABC in 2026. Or, you can check out his upcoming movies Just Breathe and The Huntsman.
