Survivor 48 just ended last month on CBS. While the future of the hit reality TV series is up in the air, it's already renewed for two more seasons, and probably at least a few more based on the casting opportunities around the country.
According to a report from CBS Sacramento, the producers and casting team held a casting call in Sacramento on Monday, June 2. More than 300 people showed up to introduce themselves to the casting team for a chance to get cast on Survivor 51 and beyond!
I've heard of other casting calls in other cities for future seasons of Survivor, too! It basically means that the series isn't ending anytime soon; that's for sure.
It's unclear what Survivor 51 will look like. I have to say, no one in the fandom is looking beyond Survivor 50 now, which is going to be the first season featuring returning players since Survivor: Winners at War. As things stand, it's expected that Survivor 51 will be released in the fall of 2026, but that hasn't been confirmed by CBS yet. We'll probably learn more about that season early next year.
Speaking of those two Survivor seasons already in the works, we have a few major updates to share on that front, too! Survivor 49 was just filmed this spring out in Fiji. The final episodes were filmed a few weeks ago before the Survivor 50 cast was announced.
Then, the Survivor 50 cast was announced on Wednesday, May 28, which was the same day that the new cast of 24 returning players flew out to Fiji. According to Surviving Tribal, Jeff Probst just revealed that production on the new season officially started on Friday, June 6.
Survivor 49 will premiere on CBS in the fall of 2025 on Wednesday nights. CBS also confirmed that Survivor 50 will premiere in February 2026.
What happens after that? Well, only the powers that be at Survivor HQ and CBS know for sure, but I think it's safe to say that Survivor isn't going anywhere. TV Line recently revealed Survivor was the highest-rated reality show of the 2024-2025 season, even higher than American Idol.
If all goes well, we should see Jeff and the gang heading back to Fiji in the spring of 2026 to film Survivor 51 and Survivor 52, but we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.
Stay tuned for more news about the future of Survivor! We should be getting regular updates about the upcoming seasons all summer long.
